Artificial Intelligence has become a part of our daily lives. From telling Alexa to play a song or asking Google about the weather or unlocking your phone with facial recognition, many people use artificial intelligence daily without recognizing it. However, the introduction of AI chatbots like ChatGPT revolutionized what we can do with AI.

A lot of people now rely on AI chatbots for writing content for their blogs. Ubisoft recently unveiled the Ghostwriter AI tool it plans to use for writing dialogues by NPCs in games. AI chatbots have also been used to write codes. One developer used it to design the classic snake game.

The accuracy of AI chatbots has always been a source of controversy. Most of the AI chatbots will always include a disclaimer that their answers may be wrong sometimes. However, we also know that many people rarely take time to fact-check any responses provided by AI chatbots—some don’t even know how to fact-check.

Driven by curiosity, we decided to ask 3 AI chatbots about the top 10 video games in history. Prior to this experiment, we anticipated that the answers would be identical or at least be very close to each other. However, the answers we received left us more confused.

We asked 3 AI chatbots about the top 10 video games in history

For this experiment, we decided to go with ChatGPT, the new Bing AI, and YouChat because they come highly recommended by ZDNet. To avoid any form of bias, we made sure that we threw exactly the same question to the three different AI chatbots; “What are the top 10 video games in history?”

Although all three AI chatbots presented different lists of games, they all agreed that the list will differ depending on the criteria used for the ranking which can be critical acclaim, copies sold, or revenue.

In fact, that disclaimer on why such a list would likely be different appeared in all three AI chatbots in a way that feels canned or near identical. This is an indication that the different AI chatbots on the market may have all been trained using the same data.

Another way to look at it is that the different AI chatbots are likely white-label products designed and deployed by the same company but branded for different companies. That is a wild but possible guess that cannot be substantiated at this time.

Without further chitchats, here are the results we got when we asked three different AI chatbots about the top 10 video games in history. We will also tell you which AI chatbot delivered the most satisfying result.

ChatGPT

ChatGPT AI chatbot

Launched in November 2022 as a prototype by OpenAI, ChatGPT is without a doubt the most popular AI chatbot today. It was heralded for its ability to produce human-like conversations based on prompts. Because of its popularity, it has become a sort of blueprint for other AI chatbots.

When we threw the question “What are the top 10 video games in history” to ChatGPT, it began by telling us that “It’s difficult to objectively determine the top 10 video games in history as different people have different preferences and criteria for what makes a game great”.

It went ahead to give us a list based on critical acclaim, commercial success, and cultural impact. Its list included Super Mario Bros., Tetris, The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, Minecraft, and Grand Theft Auto V.

Bing AI

Bing AI chatbot

Microsoft Bing AI was unveiled in February 2023. It is currently available for Skype, Bing.com, Edge, and Bing Mobile. To use the product, the user will have to be invited and approved upon accepting the invitation.

The first thing that we noticed about Bing AI is that it is chatty. It always ends its answer by prompting you to keep talking. For example, when we asked “What are the top 10 video games in history”, it began its answer by saying “That’s a great question,” and ended by saying “Ultimately, the best video game for you may depend on your personal taste, preference, and experience. What are some of your favorite video games?”

Like the other AI chatbots, Bing AI also acknowledged that “it’s hard to answer objectively. Different people may have different opinions and criteria for what makes a video game great”. It then went ahead to list the most popular and successful video games in history based on copies sold.

What we noticed is that it pulled its data directly from IGN and the top five games on its list were Tetris (520 million), Minecraft (238 million), Grand Theft Auto V (175 million), Wii Sports (82.9 million), and PUBG (75 million).

Unlike the other AI chatbots, Bing Al gave us a second list. Before the list, it said, “Of course, sales figures are not the only way to measure the quality of a video game. Some games may have received critical acclaim, influenced other games, or had a lasting impact on the culture and society”.

Based on these criteria, it presented another list it pooled from GamesRadar which includes the top 5 games in the following order The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Super Mario World, Portal 2, Half-Life 2, and The Last of Us.

YouChat

YouChat AI chatbot

YouChat was launched in December 2022 as an AI Search Assistant. It was promoted as helping users to “find answers to complex questions and unlock functionality never seen before in a search engine”. It also makes use of OpenAI’s GPT-3. However, unlike ChatGPT, it gives a Google reference to its answers.

When we threw the question “What are the top 10 video games in history” to YouChat, it just straight into giving us an answer based on copies sold as of 2023. Its top five answers were Minecraft (240 million copies sold), Grand Theft Auto V (170 million copies sold), Tetris (170 million copies sold), PUBG (100 million copies sold), and Super Mario Bros (48 million copies sold).

At the end of the top 10 list, YouChat left a disclaimer saying “Note that this list may vary depending on the source of the information and the criteria used to rank the games. Additionally, some sources may provide lists that are based on different data points such as revenue or critical acclaim rather than copies sold”.

The AI chatbot that gave the most satisfying response

After reviewing the answers from the three different AI chatbots, the answer provided by Bing AI felt more satisfying. The chatbot did not just tell us that the list can differ depending on the criteria, it went ahead to present us with a second top 10 list based on different criteria.

Also, the list presented by Bing AI based on copies sold was more accurate compared to the result presented by YouChat which claimed also to rank the top 10 games based on copies sold. ChatGPT, on the other hand, presented us with a list based on other criteria which is harder to standardize compared to a list based on copies sold.

Bing AI’s response also sounded more human-like compared to the other two which were more robotic. If you ever want to use an AI chatbot that would feel more like chatting with a human being or presenting more accurate answers, we suggest you try Bing AI.
