Sony has announced a limited-edition Astro Bot DualSense controller designed in collaboration with Sony Interactive Entertainment and Team Asobi, the developer behind the upcoming Astro Bot game. Announcing the launch of the new controller, studio head of Team Asobi, Nicolas Doucet, said pre-orders will start Friday, August 9.
“The controller’s design features Astro’s signature blue accents on the handles and buttons, carved-in, sci-fi lines as well as the trademark playful pair of eyes on the touch pad,” Doucet said. “It is a true work of art, and we could not be happier with the end-result at Team Asobi.”

The new installment in the Astro Bot series will feature 50 planets, enemies, powerups, and cameo from popular PlayStation characters. One of the defining features of the game is a DualSense spaceship (Dual Speeder) that Astro uses to navigate between planets.
The Astro Bot Limited Edition controller will be available for pre-order on direct.playstation.com and through select retailers. The controller is priced at $79.99/ €79.99 / £69.99 / ¥11,980 and will launch on September 6, the same day as the game.
Why should you get the Astro Bot Limited Edition DualSense Controller?
The question that many will likely be asking is, besides the design, what is different about the controller that would make them spend $80? Well, Doucet said that the controller will allow you to feel more of the surfaces that Astro runs on.

“Next, we doubled down on the adaptive triggers combined with haptic feedback, by tying them tightly to Astro’s new powers,” Doucet explained.
For example, when using Barkster, the bulldog Jetpack, you can feel the thruster ratting against your finger in synch with the animation, giving a very dynamic and immersive feeling. Every new power up has been given that same special treatment so you will be able to experience various expressions through your fingers.”
Doucet said that considering the vast number of enemies and boss battles in the game, both the improved texture feels and adaptive triggers were important to bring the new adventure to life. From pounding to stretching, there is a vast number of impacts to experience in Astro Bot.
Finally, the Dual Speeder, in addition to making full use of haptic feedback and adaptive triggers will also have motion control. All these features are designed to make the game come alive in the hands of the player.
