Atlas Fallen: Reign of Sands will be a free DLC that will be available to those who already own the game or plan to purchase the game. The game directors Jan Klose and Jeremy Hartvick were present in the overview trailer to provide further insights and contexts about the upcoming expansion.

A new feature that will be coming to Atlas Fallen: Reign of Sand is the new cast of voices. One of the new voice actors who was called in to record new dialogues for the upcoming expansion is Ben Starr who is most famous for his role in Final Fantasy XVI as the voice of Clive Rosfield.

“And we’re really lucky to deliver for you this brand new update for free,” Hartvick added.

According to VGInsights, Atlas Fallen sold around 59,970 units and made around $2.2m in gross revenue. The reception of the game was mixed. On Metacritic, the game’s best average score was 71 on PC. That figure dropped to 68 on Xbox Series X and 64 on PS5.

Several times through the overview trailer for the upcoming expansion, Klose and Hartvick reiterated that the game has been refined based on the feedback it received from players—and there was lots of such feedback on Metacritic.

“So many people played the game and gave us their ideas, what they like about it, where they would like to see more,” said Klose, “and so yeah, there’s new stuff coming up for you and we’re really happy to share some details with you today.”

While Atlas Fallen: Reign of Sands builds on the base game, Klose mentioned that several overhauls have been made and they have tried to improve some of the elements already in the game to make it better and more interesting.

“We heard your feedback and actually even our desire to have more enemies varieties,” said Hartvick. “So we bring you brand new enemies that push further the mechanics we already have”.

“We have brand new area where notably you will encounter some of them will go a bit deeper, also provide some lore and new abilities for you to play with, new stones, new progression mechanics for you to tailor your character, improvements on the quality of life, notably the camera and certain elements like that.

“Finally, for people who have finished the game [and] wanted some more, we have a new game plus mode that will come also with an added difficulty mode, the nightmare difficulty, for those who want to play even more with the limits of the game and their build.”

Atlas Fallen suffered from a slow start such that it took some players hours to figure out what was going on and the direction of the story. Based on feedback, the studio has now revamped the beginning of the game to get players right into the meat of the action quickly.

“We made a lot of effort to give it a better balancing to have a stronger, faster start into the game where really you’re in the action pretty quickly but also make a lot of effort that you understand the story more, that you really feel what’s going on, that you get some cool background for that,” Klose said.
