Multiple sources claim Ballistic Moon, the studio behind Until Dawn Remake has shut its doors after its pitches were rejected by Sony and failed attempts to secure funding. According Insider Gaming sources, only around 40 people remained after the September 2024 layoffs.
Confirming the layoffs that time, the studio said they will continue “supporting the launch of Until Dawn” as well as “exploring new opportunities and collaborations for the future”. The sources familiar with the matter claims neither of those aspirations has come to fruition.

The sources claimed that the studio quietly laid off half of the remaining staff leaving only around 20 people to fix bugs identified by players. The studio’s marketing, public relations, and development departments were left vacant with no employees.
“People are sharing bugs they’ve found in the game to make the team aware but there is no one working on patch support for the game anymore,” one source told Insider Gaming. “The studio has effectively closed now.”
Those who spoke on the condition of anonymity confirmed that Ballistic Moon owners made several attempts to keep things moving including actively sourcing for funding and pitching projects which were all turned down.
“Sony said after the game they might greenlight more funding for updates, but looks like they didn’t,” one source said.
Ballistic Moon was a good place to work, according to many of those who spoke on the condition that their identities were kept secret. In fact, many spoke highly of their teams and the projects they completed. However, it wasn’t all rosy as some complained about unpaid overtime which one former employee said ran into “weeks”.
Ballistic Moon is based in Woking, Surrey, UK and said they are focused on creating “exceptional and innovative games of the future”. Until Dawn Remake had a mixed reception, amassing an average Metascore of 72 on PC and 70 on PS5.
