Most games have two or three difficulty options—sometimes even four. This makes it easier for players with different skill levels to enjoy the game. In Baldur’s Gate 3, Act Three is one of the most difficult. However, a player was able to beat it flawlessly. We will tell you how!
In Baldur’s Gate 3 Act Three, players will come to the Iron Throne, an underwater prison holding innocent captives. The captives are used as leverage to force their loved ones to keep working harder in an onshore factory.
Upon arriving at the factory, Enver Gortash, a fierce character in Baldur’s Gate 3 promises to destroy the prison to prevent the information from surfacing. Afterward, you will get six turns to save as many prisoners as possible and exit the Iron Throne before it comes caving in. Many players are pleased to save half of the prisoners.

A Redditor with the username SirMcCarthy shared a screenshot that showed how they saved every prisoner held in the Iron Throne. What was even more awe-inspiring about the effort was that it was accomplished in the Tactician difficulty—the hardest difficulty in Baldur’s Gate 3.
When you choose the Tactician difficulty, your player will have lower health and the enemies will be more resilient. That means they will take more damage than they normally would to fall. In addition to that, the number of turns you will have to escape the Iron Throne will be slashed from six to five.
How SirMcCarthy be Baldur’s Gate 3 Iron Throne in Tactician difficulty
SirMcCarthy was able to beat Baldur’s Gate 3 Iron Throne in the hardest difficulty by assembling a party made up of Bard, Gale, Karlach, and Jaheira. Also part of the party were a Woodland Being, a Water Myrmidon, Us, and Scratch.
Before the Iron Throne encounter. Shadowheart and Jaheira cast Freedom of Movement and Longstrider on the entire party. The role of Freedom of Movement is to make it impossible for the team to be slowed by difficult terrain (which is crucial for deep water segments) while the Longstrider grants everyone in the party ten extra movement speed.
According to SirMcCarthy, the most vital part of the flawless rescue was using the most powerful spell in Baldur’s Gate 3; Artistry of War. The spell is believed to be the enhanced version of Magic Missile. What Artistry of War does is that it allows the player to summon six apparitions that can target up to six enemies for significant Force damage.

The presence of Gale in the party means the Artistry of War can be transcribed from the scroll and used whenever they like. With the help of the spell, they decimate the net-flinging guards that would otherwise prevent the prisoners from leaving.
Also, Gale created a portal using Arcane Gate that allows the fleeing Gondians to skip a large part of their escape route. This allows them to reach safety faster. With the combination of these spells, everyone was saved. SirMcCarthy’s walkthrough has inspired other players to try other tricks to beat the Iron Throne.
Baldur’s Gate 3 director spills the secret to crafting a successful RPG
Baldur’s Gate 3’s success surprised Larian Studios. However, they are not oblivious to the factors that brought them that success. Swen Vincke, director of Baldur’s Gate 3 and CEO of Larian Studios revealed that the key was creating a game that envisages all the possible options that players would take during the adventure.
Vincke made the revelation through the official Dungeons & Dragons channel. Larian even has a dedicated team of staff tasked with the role of tracking player paths. However, Vincke said he doesn’t pay attention to them.

“I actually don’t look at it,” Vincke said. “We have people who look at it, but I try to not do it because otherwise it can influence the creative decisions, and I want to make sure that we keep on investing heavily in things that maybe 0.001% of the audience will see.”
The entire philosophy of the studio is built around making sure that any path taken by the player is rewarding. Perhaps, this is why lots of players are jumping right back into the game. Some have even found a way to beat the game in under 4 minutes.
“If you would say, ‘oh, 80% of the players go there and they see that’, what’s going to happen is you’re going to put all of your efforts on the 80% experience, and you’re going to do less on the 20%,” Vincke said. “That’s not what you should do when you make a game like this, at least in my opinion.”
