Black Myth: Wukong is definitely a Game of The Year contender. Released on August 20, 2024, the game became an instant hit selling 10 million copies in just 3 days. Now there are claims it will get a DLC in early 2025.
“DLC for Black Myth Wukong will come out somewhere near the Chinese New Year, 2025,” Daniel Camilo, a game writer and consultant living in Shenzhen wrote on X. “That is, right at the end of January, or very soon after.”

Camilo claimed the information was from a “very reliable” source. While Game Science has yet to say anything about a DLC for Black Myth Wukong, one of their investors Hero Games recently said the expansion was in development, according to a Bloomberg report.
Camilo also claimed that the game had sold around 20 million units but predicted the DLC would sell less than 20% of the base installs. According to the game consultant, the reason why the DLC will sell below 20% of the base installs include
- Most sales came from China (70%+)
- Novelty & National pride factor will be gone for Chinese consumers once DLC releases
- The game is too challenging
“The game is too challenging, and at least a few millions of the people who bought the game in China are not core/hardcore gamers,” Camilo said. “For many of those consumers, dlc simply won’t be an interesting proposition.”

Black Myth: Wukong was reportedly developed with a budget of $70 million but has now earned the company over $800. According to Daniel Ahmad, the director of research and insights at Niko Partners, it is one of the fastest-selling games in history, dwarfed only by GTA 5 and Modern Warfare 2.
