Just a few months ago at The Game Awards 2024, Borderlands 4 got its first mix of cinematic and gameplay trailer with a release window planned for 2025. The launch date was confirmed at the PlayStation State of Play held on February 12, 2025.

Described as the “definitive looter shooter” on the game’s official page, Borderlands 4 will launch across all the current-gen consoles and PC on September 23. Fans of the franchise got a chance to see more of the gameplay at the State of Play.

Chief creative officer Randy Varnell and Gearbox Entertainment founder Randy Pitchford could not hide their excitement before the trailer which included gameplay and cinematics captured on PS5.
Following up with the State of Play reveal, Varnell confirmed that there will be a deep dive later this spring that will focus exclusively on the gameplay.
“We’re diving deep you guys,” added Pitchford. “Join us, Borderlands 4 State of Play for combat, vault hunters, action skills exploration, and discovery. Everything! You are gonna see more guns than you can even count.”
Talking about guns, the release date announcement trailer flaunted several of them including the ones that dissolve the opponent and those that explode on impact. Borderlands 4 will take off from the end of the third installment.

“Borderlands 4 is our most ambitious game to date, giving you more looting and shooting mayhem than ever before,” explained Varnell on PlayStation Blog. “Our team has been kicking so much ass, and we cannot wait to share it with you.”
