Activision appears to have scored another huge win in its battle to combat cheating in Call of Duty: Warzone. One of the biggest cheat providers for Call of Duty: Warzone, Phantom Overlay, has announced that they are shutting down.

“Everything related to Phantom Overlay will be terminated in 32 days from now!” wrote the person behind the cheat on X. “My new Twitter account is @zebleerguy– This Twitter account was made by a PO staff member, not me. I will not use it anymore. If you see someone using this account, it’s not me…”

Hours after the cheat provider shared the news, another account @CODWarfareForum corroborated the news by sharing a screenshot of the Phantom Overlay Discord server which also had the message with the warning, “Do not let someone trick you or scam you by impersonating me!”

The person behind the Call of Duty: Warzone cheat later posted on X saying, “Is anyone hiring? Besides McDonalds?” When a user with the handle @BarbaryJoh42740 commented with “Too soon for jokes. We are still hurt,” Zebleerguy responded with “Why? I don’t think I am scamming anyone. If you feel scammed, make a ticket on my website”.

This development marks a significant milestone in Activision’s battle to dismantle cheat providers which often involves lengthy lawsuits and investment in expensive anti-cheat software.

Call of Duty: Warzone has massive player numbers, although, like many other franchises, it has struggled with hackers who provide unfair advantages that ruin the playing experience for legitimate players.

Warzone’s free-to-play model also made it lucrative for cheaters because it removed the barrier to entry. The intense competition provided by the game and often huge tournament prizes also led to a rise in demand for cheat providers.

The cheat provider assured that this is not an exit scam and promised a partial refund to those who already purchased lifetime key. In December 2024, Phantom Overlay changed its operations to “closed private community” to stay out of sight following the detection and shutdown of other Call of Duty: Warzone cheat providers.
