For 11 years, Capcom has enjoyed unbroken operating profit growth. The publisher is gunning for a twelfth year of consecutive operating profit growth, mostly driven by the steady growth of its digital content business.
In the company’s latest financial results presentation, it mentioned that all its business segments outperformed its plans. In addition to the growth of its digital content business, Capcom said sales and profit grew year-over-year in its amusement equipment and arcade operations business.
The Resident Evil maker released its financial results for the three months ended June 30, 2024, and said it was on track for a 12th consecutive year of operating profit growth, notwithstanding a 33% drop in its net sales and a 46% drop in operating income.

“During the three months ended June 30, 2024, sales in Capcom’s core Digital Contents business centered on releases of existing titles on additional platforms and catalog sales of major titles released in previous fiscal years because the launch timing of new titles will be concentrated in the second half of the current fiscal year,” Capcom said.
“The resulting sales volumes were 9.53 million units, which made solid progress toward achieving the full-year target and was in-line with plans, though represented a decrease compared to the same period of the previous fiscal year when Street Fighter 6 was released.”
The year-over-year dip in sales and operating income was attributed to the suboptimal performance of Street Fighter 6 which was released last June. The company blamed the slow sales of the game on a heavily stacked release window.
Capcom plans to promote long-term sales of its titles through pricing strategies and by releasing existing titles on new platforms. For example, Monster Hunter Stories was released on additional platforms on June 14. The company has also confirmed the release of Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster for September.
Monster Hunter continues to be its best-selling title for 2024 followed by Resident Evil 4, Street Fighter 6, and Dragon’s Dogma 2. Resident Evil 4 has surpassed 7.6 million copies sold while Dragon’s Dogma 2 has sold over 3.08 million units.
