While Monster Hunter Wilds has seen huge numbers on its launch day, the successful launch is dampened by poor performance issues on PC which has seen its reviews on Steam hang around “Mixed”. Capcom has now responded with a walkaround.
“If you’re experiencing any initial issues with Monster Hunter Wilds on Steam, please try updating your graphics driver, turning off compatibility mode, and then readjust your settings,” Capcom wrote on X through the game’s official support handle.
At the time of writing, Monster Hunter Wilds was the most played game on Steam and had jumped to the 6th most concurrently played game on the platform with 1,307,976 concurrent players. The number has eclipsed the record set by the previous release in the franchise.
On the game’s support page, Capcom provided a detailed guide that should help players fix issues like the game not running properly, does not launch, or the sound/cutscenes are not playing. See the full guide here.
The official Monster Hunter Wilds troubleshooting and issues reporting thread on Steam contains further guides that should address some of the pain points that players have voiced out since the game’s launch.
Monster Hunter Wild’s rating has improved a little compared to the last time we checked. When the game had 6,000 reviews, the rating was “Mixed” with 49% positive reviews. In our latest scan, of the 23,000 reviews, the positive had jumped to 53%.
A similar incident also got players frustrated when Dragon’s Dogma 2 was released last year. That entry also ended with a Mixed review on Steam.
Monster Hunter Wilds’ character editing locked behind a paywall
Besides the optimization issues that have got players up in arms with Capcom another issue that most players have found distasteful is that the character customization is locked behind microtransactions.

Players can only change the physical features of their hunter and Palico once for free. Any further edits after that would require a purchase with real money. Players who want to edit their character further must purchase the Monster Hunter Wilds – Character Edit Voucher: Three-Voucher Pack from the digital storefronts for $6.
Without purchasing the pack, edits are limited to hair, eyebrow and facial color, clothing, and makeup. The same applies to making changes to the player’s companion. There is a voucher sold for $10 that allows players to edit both the character and Palico three times.
Some players are frustrated because these microtransactions were not disclosed during the test and review period—although surfaced on social media last week. Capcom’s president has previously complained that video games are too cheap. Perhaps, since they cannot yet increase the price of games they are squeezing players through other means.
