Most successful online games share one problem in common; they constantly fight cheaters—and Palworld is no exception. Pocketpair recently reported that some players in the game’s official servers are cheating—and getting rid of cheaters is not always an easy task.
“Currently, some players have been confirmed to be cheating on the official server,” Pocketpair tweeted on Thursday, January 25, 2024. “We will apply a patch as soon as it is ready, but it is currently difficult to completely prevent all cheating immediately.”
“We will continue to focus even more on security and aim to create an environment where everyone can play with peace of mind. We sincerely apologize to all players who have been affected by this incident. Thank you for your continued support of Palworld.”

Palworld has been the breakout release from Pocketpair. Although it is the fourth title from the developer, it is the first to put them in the spotlight. It was the first title from the developer to ever sell a million copies.
On January 25, Pocketpair revealed that the game sold 8 million copies in 6 days. The developer also had a Steam launch sale that ended on January 26, which was intended to further boost sales.
Palworld’s success also serves as a huge motivation for indie developers who often struggle to sell a million copies. However, the game has had its fair share of controversy. Some gamers have called out Pocketpair for the close similarity between their monsters and those of Pokémon.
The competition has attracted reactions from both the Pocketpair CEO and The Pokémon Company. GameBaba Universe spotted one comment that brought the Palworld vs Pokémon comparison into Palworld’s cheating announcement tweet.

“Pokemon: does nothing about cheating. Palworld: Calls it out and works to shut it down,” wrote @Verliswolf. “This is why Palworld is winning”.
Pocketpair released a Palworld patch for Steam
Approximately an hour after the cheating announcement, Pocketpair announced that it had released a patch for the Steam version of the game. However, the Xbox version was still pending and would be released as soon as it was ready. The patch doesn’t appear to be the announced solution against cheating. The main changes that it would bring include;
- Fixed a bug where the loading screen did not end when logging into the world
- Fixed a bug where the world date was not displayed correctly and appeared to reset
- Corrected various incorrect text
- Countermeasures against various cheats and exploits
Pocketpair has continued to face severe problems since the launch of Palworld. From hundreds of bugs to server congestions, the developer has promised to continue fixing the bugs as soon as they are identified. The latest patch also came with additional problems which Pocketpair highlighted in a January 25 tweet.

“Following the recent patch, numerous logins are concurrently underway, leading to congested access. We are sorry for the inconvenience but please wait a moment before trying to connect to the servers. Single-player, co-op, and private servers should be relatively unaffected by this.”
Palworld has been mostly praised for being fun to play and looking almost complete even while in Early Access. The studio recently shared the roadmap for the game and confirmed that sales have far exceeded their expectations. Some of the planned future updates for the game include:
- PvP
- Raid Bosses (End-Game Content)
- Pal Arena (PvP for Pals)
- Steam-Xbox Crossplay
- Various Xbox Feature Improvements
- Server Transfers and Migrations
- Improvements to the Building System
- New Islands, Pals, Bosses, and Technologies
