During the Redstream on Friday, December 1, 2023, we got to know more about the upcoming update 2.1 for Cyberpunk 2077. The update will launch on the same day as the Cyberpunk 2077 Ultimate Edition. From a new Metro System to Radio on the go, and re-playable car races, CD Projekt Red has a lot more in store for the December 2020 release.

Cyberpunk 2077 Update 2.1 Will Get Metro System And New Vehicles

The Redstream was anchored by senior community managers Amelia Kolat and Alicja Kozera. Also in attendance were quest director Pawel Sasko and producer Monika Janowska. Arguably the biggest addition to Update 2.1 is the Metro System—and it is a big deal.

“Well, the metro was not in our plans for a long time,” said Janowska. “However, over time we’ve revisited our plan and with the Ultimate Edition on the horizon, we’ve decided that it actually could be achievable. So, we decided to go for it.”

Sasko added that the 2018 trailer for Cyberpunk had Metro and a lot of people have been talking about it. He also mentioned that the CGI trailer with Idris Elba and Solomon Reed for Phantom Liberty also had the Metro. Having teased it for a long time, the studio decided that “maybe it’s about time to actually make it for the game”, Sasko added.

Explaining how the Metro System works, Janowska said that players can travel between 19 metro stations. Basically, the metro system can be used as a fast travel point or a real-life metro ride experience to just sit back and enjoy the view of the city.

There will be 5 metro lines operating in Night City called the Night City Area Rapid Transit (NCART). They can be found on the metro map and are distinguishable by their colors. Janowska explained that the metro is only accessible after the Konpeki Plaza due to narrative reasons.

Apparently, when you get to Konpeki Plaza, you will get a message from NCART with a card to the metro. The card will be added to your inventory and grant you access to the metro system. So, since you don’t get the card until Konpeki Plaza, you can’t access the metro system until after you get the card—which makes a lot of sense.

One interesting point that Janowska mentioned about the metro experience is that players can skip it at any point during the ride rather than having to experience all of it. The first ride will be an awesome experience. However, as diminishing returns set in, players will likely want to skip through the rides.

Cyberpunk 2077 radioport is a feature highly requested by players

Cyberpunk 2077 Update 2.1 Will Get Metro System And New Vehicles

I remember playing Mafia 2 around the Christmas period and when I entered the car I enjoyed the Christmas tunes playing through the stereo. However, it was a shame I had to stop listening whenever I stepped out of the vehicle.

Cyberpunk 2077 update 2.1 will fix that with a feature called the Radioport. This feature allows you to continue playing the songs you heard on the radio even after exiting your vehicle. However, there is a limitation to this feature.

“You can listen to it while in the metro. We can also listen when exploring the city,” Janowska explained. “However, during quests, conversations, or any other fundamental moments in the game where audio is crucial for understanding the meaning of the scene, the radioport will be restricted from use.”

Basically, what CD Projekt Red has done is allow players to enjoy their favorite radio track while on free roam but also ensure that the radio doesn’t interfere with the main missions. Therefore, the radioport will be turned off automatically once a major game moment kicks in and turned on again once you are back to free roam. This will come in handy while riding the metro.

Indirectly, the automatic turning off of the radio is now a new cue that tells you that something is about to go down. CD Projekt Red also announced updates to Adam Smasher Boss fight, some car races will be replayable, updates have been made to motorcycle combats, new car chases have also been added, as well as a new accessibility tab.
