EA has promised to release a free Euro 24 update for EA Sports FC 24 in time to coincide with the start of the tournament. The Euro 24 update will come to EA Sports FC 24, EA Sports FC Mobile, and EA Sports FC Online in the summer of 2024. The update will be released across all platforms.
According to EA, those who play FC 24 by January 16, 2024, will receive “one of Europe’s biggest stars” as an untradeable Ultimate Team player item. The distribution will start on December 18. The player item that will be granted to gamers will be one of the following:
- Alvaro Morata – Spain
- Federico Chiesa – Italy
- Florian Wirtz – Germany
- Jack Grealish – England
- Ousmane Dembélé – France
- Virgil Van Djik – Netherlands
“We are delighted to further expand our partnership with EA Sports, with UEFA Euro becoming a part of the EA Sports FC game,” said Guy-Laurent Epstein, UEFA marketing director in a statement. “UEFA Euro 2024 is one of the world’s most vibrant and exciting football tournaments, and we’re thrilled that the huge EA Sports FC 24 community across the globe will get the chance to engage with the tournament in such an authentic gaming environment.”

Last year, EA Sports ended their long-running partnership with FIFA over disagreements that bothered on licensing fees. EA Sports FC 24 was the first time in the history of the soccer franchise that a new installment did not bear the FIFA nameplate.
Therefore, EA Sports will be glad to maintain other partnerships that will bring major tournaments to the game to maintain its authenticity. At the moment, it is unclear if future FIFA tournaments like the World Cup will feature in EA Sports FC.
EA Sports FC 24 has recorded several successes—and controversies
In the UK and Europe, EA Sports FC 24 was the best-selling game in October. Although the sale of the new installment was down 10% compared to FIFA 23, it was still enough for the game to become the crown of the month.
This was highly significant considering the fact that October saw the release of some of the biggest titles for the year including Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, Assassin’s Creed: Mirage, and Super Mario Bros. Wonder. However, Spider-Man 2 and Super Mario Bros. Wonder eventually overtook EA Sports FC 24 in sales numbers.

Perhaps, the reason why EA Sports FC 24 was able to cement the top spot as the most sold title in the region in October was because it was released earlier in the month. Both Spider-Man 2 and Super Mario Bros. Wonder were released on October 20.
What we found highly interesting was how the sale of physical copies was ahead of digital copies in the region. Perhaps, people are beginning to get worried about losing their titles when platforms suddenly shut down their stores—like we saw with Nintendo earlier this year.
Activists have been speaking up about video game conservation and one of their demands has always been making physical copies of games available and making sure they can be played without the Internet.
In terms of controversy, the EA Sports FC 24 community has raised an eyebrow about the $30 Ultimate Team pack which arrived even before the official launch of the game. Earlier this week, EA Sports FC 24 players accused the developer of forcing the most expensive loot boxes (Ultimate Team packs) down their throats by placing them in a prominent position in the in-game store.
The uproar came after EA Sports announced that it had made modifications to the Ultimate Team store to offer “a more curated experience”. One of the biggest problems we have noticed in the gaming industry is that developers are now prioritizing revenue over player experience.
