Nintendo is yet again facing piracy issues with The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom. Although the game is billed for release on Thursday, September 26, 2024, streams of the game have already flooded the Internet.
Gameplay videos have surfaced on popular streaming and social media platforms including Twitch, Kick, X, and TikTok. According to VGC, part of the reason why streams of the game have appeared online early is because of early physical copy sales in retail.
Nintendo usually issues copyright claims that lead to the removal of videos leaking its game ahead of time. However, VGC confirmed that one TikTok streamer was able to avoid detection by naming the video, “not the new Zelda”.
The problem is partly due to piracy. Copies of the game have started showing up on video game pirate websites. Earlier this year, Nintendo sued Tropic Haze, the developers of Yuzu emulator saying it allowed the piracy of games at a colossal scale.
However, it felt like fetching a cup out of an ocean because there are other Switch emulator software out there including Ryujinx which does the same thing as Yuzu. In the lawsuit against Yuzu, Nintendo claimed over a million copies of Tears of the Kingdom were distributed through pirate sites with the help of the emulator.
There will likely be consequences in the weeks and months to come and we anticipate that Nintendo will file more lawsuits against more emulator makers as well as anyone perceived to be behind the current leak.
In The Legend Of Zelda: Echoes Of Wisdom, the people of Hyrule are being stolen away by strange rifts randomly appearing throughout the kingdom. Playing as Princess Zelda, players will try to save the kingdom in the company of her magic staff.
The Legend Of Zelda: Echoes Of Wisdom promises a new experience in the series where Princess Zelda can use the powerful Tri Rod to create imitations of things you find in the world to help her solve puzzles and defeat enemies.
Pre-orders for The Legend Of Zelda: Echoes Of Wisdom are available on the Nintendo eShop for $60. A special Nintendo Switch Lite: Hyrule Edition will also be available on the game’s launch day.
