The much-anticipated trailer of Elden Ring’s expansion was released on Wednesday, February 21, 2024. In just 17 hours, Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree received over 6 million views, nearly half of the lifetime views received by the official gameplay reveal of the base game.

The official Elden Ring gameplay reveal trailer was published on June 10, 2021. At the time of writing this post, that video has a lifetime view of 12,652,265. In contrast, after just 17 hours of publishing the Shadow of the Erdtree expansion, the trailer had 6,242,646 views at the time of writing this post—and counting. Interestingly, the video description of the trailer is a poem and read;

Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree DLC is described as FromSoftware’s “largest expansion to date”. Players will be tasked with unraveling the “hidden mystery of the world from the acclaimed fantasy action RPG”.

The trailer has also confirmed that the DLC will be released on June 21, 2024, and will be available on PS4|PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC. The PC version of the game will be in the form of a digital download. Only PS5 and Xbox Series X|S will get a physical release of the expansion.

Just like every other expansion, players will need to have the base game installed to play Shadow of the Erdtree DLC. On PC, the game will require a minimum of Windows 10, Intel Core i5 or AMD Ryzen 3, 12 GB RAM, 4 GB NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 or AMD Radeon RX 580, and up to 60 GB of available storage.

Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree DLC has a starting price of $39.99 / £34.99 and is available for pre-order across different editions.

Developer FromSoftware has promised that Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree will come with a new story. On the upcoming release’s official page on the publisher (Bandai Namco) website, a peek at the multiple award-winning game’s official story was revealed.

“Guided by Empyrean Miquella, players are beckoned to the Land of Shadow, a place obscured by the Erdtree where the goddess Marika first set foot,” the publisher wrote. “In these strange new lands, players discover the dark secrets of the world as they meet others who follow in Miquella’s footsteps with ulterior motives.”

Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree is set in the Lands of Shadow, a location beyond the Lands Between. “Players can seamlessly travel back and forth between its vast maps interspersed with diverse situations and meticulous dungeons where menacing enemies roam,” the publisher revealed.

“Shadow of the Erdtree adds new weapons, equipment, weapon skills, and magic not found in the base game ELDEN RING, along with new enemies, boss encounters and plotlines to further increase players’ RPG freedom. Take on these threats with the new powers you can acquire.”
