Last year, Brice Laville Saint-Martin left Supercell, where he served as a creative director, to start Antihero Studios. He was joined by Frank Yan, a senior game designer who worked on Brawl Stars, and Andre Parodi, a former King technical director. Antihero Studios is preparing for the seed round.

“At Antihero, we are driven by the responsibility to ‘Create Games Worth Sharing’, with socially engaging multiplayer games and a holistic brand strategy as core pillars to drive organic reach and build a sustainable, profitable business,” Saint-Martin wrote on LinkedIn.

Also joining the company are former Ubisoft game designer Hadrian Semroud and former Socialpoint developer Gonzalo Martinez. According to a report by MobileGamer.biz, the new company has already received funding from the Finnish government. Although the studio is based in Finland, they have offices in Barcelona, Spain.

In a lengthy post on LinkedIn, Yan detailed how his career took a turn over the last decade. He left his accounting profession to pursue game-making. According to him, no one agreed to hire him so he convinced another web developer and they teamed up to launch an F2P live service web game.

Although the game didn’t find the right audience, it solidified his game making career. Eventually, he landed a career at Blizzard Entertainment where he worked on Hearthstone as senior game designer before joining Supercell.

Over the years, Yan has worked on incredible socially compelling games. He expressed his delight to join Saint-Martin and Parodi as co-founder of Antihero Studio.

“At Antihero, our mission is clear: to create ‘Games Worth Sharing’ by building multiplayer games that not only to connect people, but allowing them to become lifelong friends,” Yan wrote.

“I hope to bring the insights from ESG, Blizzard and Supercell to push multiplayer gaming to the next level.”
