Fast Travel Games which carved a niche in developing and publishing VR games announced they would cut ties with 30 employees. They blamed the layoff on weak sales and said the decision would mostly affect the publishing, marketing, and admin departments.
“Due to lower sales than expected from our six game launches in 2024, in combination with a more uncertain year ahead for VR Games as a whole., we’ve taken the difficult decision to make 30 employees redundant at FTG,” the company announced through a LinkedIn post.

“These changes will affect mainly our Publishing, Marketing, and Admin departments, although the Studio will also be impacted as we consolidate down to one development team. This is an exceptionally difficult decision, but we believe it’s necessary to ensure a stable and sustainable future for the company.”
Fast Travel Games hinted in the announcement that the layoff will not affect their ability to launch “incredible games” in the future for their loyal players. Fast Travel Games is behind the development or publishing of popular VR games on Meta, Steam VR, and PlayStation VR2 including Action Hero, Mannequin, and The Midnight Walk.
Fast Travel Games was founded by veterans from Battlefield, Mirror’s Edge, and Angry Birds. The company is based in Stockholm, Sweden, and has the mission of delivering the best in-class experiences to VR users.
Their biggest year was 2023 with two internally developed titles and three published games. They went ahead to bag multiple awards including NYX Game Award for the Best Multiplayer, Gameplay, Action, and Experience for Guardians Frontline.
Ex Fast Travel Games employees share their grief
It is quite unfortunate that in 2025 layoff is still a trending topic. Fast Travel Games layoff is the third mass layoff we have reported this week. Some of those impacted by the company’s decision have bared their mind on LinkedIn.
“It breaks my heart to tell you that today, Fast Travel Games axed the marketing and publishing teams, with a lot of amazing people being laid off,” wrote community manager Jesper Englin. “… I am a part of that”.
Senior release manager, Sandra Ferroni, posted a lengthy message saying, “I’m super sad to announce that 60% of Fast Travel Games has been let go and I am now seeking my next opportunity”. She went on to detail her experience which includes successfully launching 13 games and managing 19+ titles across 5 platforms.
