If you have been longing for a Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth DLC, you can as well shelve that idea as the game’s director Naoki Hamaguchi has now struck out the possibility of the game getting a story DLC. Hamaguchi further hinted at the reason why a story DLC was off the books for Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth.
According to the director, the reason why Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth is not getting a story DLC is because the studio is focused on finishing the third part of the trilogy. Prior to the latest reveal, fans had hoped that Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth would get a story DLC, and here’s why.

The first game in the trilogy called Final Fantasy 7 Remake was released in 2020. It later received an upgraded PS5 version called Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade. This upgraded version also included a story DLC called Episode Intermission. Therefore, with the release of the PS5 Pro, many fans anticipated that Rebirth will get a similar treatment.
“We definitely do hear the desire from fans, the voices out there that want that kind of thing,” Hamaguchi explained during an interview with the Daily Star. “I understand it completely, but I think, from my perspective, what the fans really want to see the most is not necessarily DLC. They want to see the third part of the series as quickly as possible.”
“So that’s why we’ve decided not to focus the development resources on creating additional extra episodes for DLC at the moment. We really are putting all our efforts into getting the third game out as quickly as we can. So for the moment, that’s where we’re focusing our time.”
There has been so much hype around the third installment in the trilogy. Earlier this year, Hamaguchi boasted that the third installment would be one of the greatest video games ever made.
