We are down to the last 5 nominees for the Players’ Voice category of The Game Awards. This is the only category where the winner is chosen based solely on community votes. A total of 30 games were nominated in this category. After two rounds of voting, we have the last five that will compete for the award.

These Would Have Been The Game Of The Year Contenders If It Was Based 100% On Community Vote

Black Myth: Wukong (Game Science), Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree (Fromsoftware), Genshin Impact (Hoyoverse), Wuthering Waves (Kuro Games), and Zenless Zone Zero (Hoyoverse) are the last five games left in this category.

While I predicted that Black Myth: Wukong would make it to the last five, I could never have predicted that all the games remaining in this category would be games by Chinese developers.

Since this category is based 100% on community votes, it is hard to argue the outcome. However, it is either Chinese games are now so good that gamers around the world are giving them their flowers or that Chinese gamers participate more in this category than American and European gamers combined.

While I cannot say with certainty why the Players’ Voice category is dominated by Chinese games, I strongly believe the answer lies in one of the two options highlighted above. A third option would be that the category is rigged with bot votes, but I would quickly dismiss that knowing The Game Awards has the resources to prevent such an occurrence (or do they?).

Perhaps, in the future, Geoff Keighley and his team should not just tell us the games that win in each voting round, they should also make public the number of votes each game garnered in each voting round. At this point, I am grateful The Game of the Year is not based solely on community votes.

While I am not sure that will help, I believe it will open the door to more scrutiny of what really happens in this voting category. By the way, voting is still ongoing to decide which game wins the Players’ Voice category. Cast your votes here.

The winner will be announced at The Game Awards scheduled to hold December 12 at the Peacock Theater, in Los Angeles. It was recently announced that Snoop Dogg would perform at The Game Awards.

Are you looking forward to The Game Awards and which game do you think would win the Players’ Voice category? GameBaba Universe would like to hear your thoughts.
