Yesterday, we reported that players bombarded Helldivers 2 with negative reviews after Sony said players must connect their Steam account to their PSN account. Sucker Punch is now reassuring players that Ghost of Tsushima will not require them to connect their PSN account to a PC… But that is only for one-half of the game.

Sucker Punch Reassures Players Ghost Of Tsushima Won’t Need A PSN Login… But There’s A Caveat

For players who want to enjoy the single-player experience, the game will not have a PSN login requirement. However, the same cannot be said about the multiplayer experience. In response to a now-restricted X post, Sucker Punch wrote;

“Just so you are aware, A PSN account is required for Legends online multiplayer mode and to use PlayStation overlay. It is not required to play the single-player game.”

A lot of players have expressed relief over the realization that the single-player experience of Ghost of Tsushima will not be walled behind a PSN login. In fact, most players will get the full worth of their money with the single-player experience.

A few players have expressed their gratitude and relief. That is easy to understand if you live in a country where PSN is not currently available.

The problem with demanding that players link their PSN account to their PC is not necessarily too much to ask. Other gaming companies have similar policies on some of their titles. However, the problem here is that PSN is only available in around 67 countries which hugely limits the number of players that can play the game.

Ghost of Tsushima Director’s Cut is set to launch on PC on May 16, 2024. Most PC gamers are excited to finally have a shot at playing the masterpiece after what seems like forever.

Interestingly, some think that people are just overreacting to the PSN mandate. GameBaba Universe spotted a few posts that spoke in support of Sony. One of such tweets quoted Paul Tassi of Forbes who said he doesn’t see any valid reason why “Sony wouldn’t walk this back”.

Sharing a similar view in defense of Sony, HRBomber wrote, “The overreacting to the PSN account thing is hilarious. You’ll make accounts for MS, Ubisoft, Square, 2K, EA, Rockstar, Blizzard, and God knows what else but PSN is the last straw?”

Ultimately, it appears the issue with Helldivers 2 was poor communication. Most players bought the game without knowing that PSN login was a requirement. However, now that Ghost of Tsushima players know what they are up against from day one, the controversy will likely be minimal—if available at all.

By the way, Jeff Grub claims the next PlayStation event will be held this month. It is unclear if it will be the PlayStation showcase or State of Play. Also, it has been rumored that Ghost of Tsushima 2 would likely be revealed at the event.
