God of War Ragnarök got a surprising DLC called Valhalla. It was first announced at The Game Awards and will be available to players today. Game directors Bruno Velazquez and Mihir Sheth revealed 5 things that gamers should know before jumping into God of War Ragnarök: Valhalla.
Since God of War Ragnarök: Valhalla is a DLC, players will only have access to it if they own the base game. Although players can experience Valhalla without completing the campaign of God of War Ragnarök, the co-directors advised against it because Valhalla comes with spoilers.

Valhalla appears to kick off where the main story ended. This means that players will have a better understanding of what is happening if they have completed the base game. Below are the 5 things that the co-directors want fans to know before jumping into God of War Ragnarök: Valhalla.
#1. Discover Valhalla
While Valhalla was a location that was present in Ragnarök, players never really got the chance to experience it. Santa Monica Studio deliberately designed Valhalla expansion for players to explore. That means tons of new elements and enemies to discover and a stunning environment to admire.
#2. Reimagined gameplay
From what we understood, Valhalla will be a re-playable rogue-like mode. At the start of every play, the player will get to choose from one of two Platinum Glyph which will ultimately affect their abilities and playstyle. Also, every new playthrough will be different from the former, reminiscent of the Roguelike Survival Mode that will be coming to The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered.
“Valhalla is an unraveling and re-playable adventure that reframes God of War in a new life,” said Sheth. “Each attempt in Valhalla plays out differently than the next.”
#3. God of War Ragnarök: Valhalla is a personal journey
As we mentioned earlier, Valhalla is going to be an extension of Ragnarök. At the end of Ragnarök, Kratos discovered a new dimension to his life that he never imagined. It was the quest to discover his life’s new path that led him to the shores of Valhalla.

“He will face trials that challenge his abilities and resolve in a new re-playable adventure,” said Velazquez.
#4. Master thyself
It appears Valhalla will not be a story-driven DLC like we often see with other franchises. Instead, it will present gamers with the opportunity to master their combat and the use of all their weapons. Before starting each playthrough, the player will decide which weapon to focus on and which perks they will take.
All these point to the fact that Valhalla was designed to help players master the use of all the different weapons. Alternatively, it can be said that the DLC was also designed for players to master their play style. For example, players who want to perfect their evading skills can choose the Evasion Focus perk glyph which offers a “moderate LUCK chance to grant a Blessing of RUNIC on any last-second evade”.
The skills acquired in the process will come in handy for players who have completed Ragnarök’s main story but have the intention of diving back into Game Plus mode.

“You will be pushed to master combat as you battle against combinations of enemies you haven’t faced before,” Sheth said, “and maybe a few new surprises”.
#5. Valhalla is a free DLC
It appears Valhalla is a sort of thank-you package from Sony Santa Monica Studios. Although DLCs are usually priced lower than the base games due to their shorter playtime, Santa Monica is offering Valhalla DLC at no extra cost to players. Players who own God of War Ragnarök can download the free DLC now.
“We hope you enjoy this gift from everyone here at Santa Monica Studio to the God of War community,” said Velazquez.
