Grand Theft Auto 6

Rockstar has confirmed that the development of Grand Theft Auto 6 is actively ongoing, although there is no official release date yet. The franchise which has been running for 26 years warmed its way into the hearts of gamers by offering unlimited possibilities when it comes to interacting with the environment.

Through a leak last year, gamers were able to glean who the protagonists would be in the upcoming Grand Theft Auto 6. It also gave players insights into the new gameplay mechanics. According to the leaks, Grand Theft Auto 6 will be set in Vice City.

A lot has changed since the first series of six interconnected Grand Theft Auto titles were set in Vice City between 2001 and 2006. It will be exciting to see the new face of Vice City in the next-gen console and possibly Unreal Engine 5.

The Vice City that featured in earlier GTA series was set in the 80s and paid homage to Scarface and Miami Vice. However, Grand Theft Auto 6 will be set in the present day, just like GTA 5 and GTA 4. Also, there are indications that it will follow the path of GTA 5 by having multiple playable protagonists called Lucia and Jason.

After the leak of September 2022, Rockstar Games has done its best to make sure there is no further data breach. However, some days ago, a map alleged to be from the game surfaced on Reddit. Although the post was later taken down, it had stayed long enough to spread across the internet.

Another Redditor, tusstaster posted an image comparing the leaked map of Grand Theft Auto 6 to that of GTA 5. The comparison was in scale with units of the Rockstar Advanced Game Engine (RAGE). From the map, it is easy to see that the world of Grand Theft Auto 6 is about twice the size of GTA 5.

The map also reveals lots of green—wilderness—with cities strewn across. This type of terrain was first seen in Red Dead Redemption 2 released in 2018 by the same developer. It seems they are bringing the same approach to the upcoming game.

Some locations revealed in the leak like Vice City Mamba’s stadium, Ocean Beach, and Little Haiti were also featured in Grand Theft Auto Vice City. However, there are also new additions on the map like Yorktown and Port Gellhorn as well as a few islands connected to the main map by bridges.

Another observation from the map is how far some of the cities were from each other. Players may be forced to travel long distances to complete some missions. However, it is likely that Rockstar will introduce the Fast Travel mechanic in the game to make navigation easier. This was also gleaned from last year’s leaked development video.

GTA 4 features a similar fast travel mechanic where the player makes use of the subway train to navigate Liberty City. As an alternative, Grand Theft Auto 6 may introduce a taxi service. According to an insider Tez2, Grand Theft Auto 6 will likely get additional content even after its release.

Rockstar Games is yet to comment on the leaked map. However, the fact that the map was quickly taken down suggests that there may be credibility to it. Nevertheless, without validation from the developers, every piece of information in the public space is mere speculation.

Gamers cross their fingers at the possibility of a co-op campaign

Since it came to public view that Rockstar Games was working on Grand Theft Auto 6, many gamers have been speculating on ways the game can be different from its predecessors. One of the features gamers think would be really cool is to make the main campaign playable in co-op. This is yet to be done in the series’ 26 years of history.

Sometime in the past, Rockstar offered GTA Online with multiplayer enabled. However, the main story mode of the series has always been single-player. Similar franchises like Saints Row offer this capability in some of their titles.

GTA 5, with its three playable protagonists, offered the best opportunity for co-op play. However, Rockstar decided against it. At the moment, very little is known about Lucia and Jason. Nevertheless, industry analysts are already comparing them to the notorious American criminal couple, Bonnie and Clyde.

It is important to mention that every piece of information about Grand Theft Auto 6 should be taken with a pinch of salt. Developers usually start out with a broad vision but are sometimes forced to scale back based on deadlines and available resources. Therefore, everything you think you know about Grand Theft Auto 6 may change before the final product launch.
