Developers trying to ride on a popular franchise to rip off unsuspecting players is not new. The latest in this phony copycat game is ‘Gray Zone Attack’, an apparent copy of ‘Gray Zone Warfare’.

Gray Zone Attack is being developed by Esail LTD and has a 2025 release window.  According to the game’s description on the PlayStation Store, “In Gray Zone Attack, you’re part of an elite tactical unit sent to uncover the secrets of a devastated quarantine zone.”

It further adds that “Every decision matters, every bullet counts, and survival is never guaranteed”. However, Grant Taylor-Hill of Insider Gaming noted that “Every decision matters” was a spin of MADFINGER’s slogan “every move matters” for Gray Zone Warfare.

The cover art of the Gray Zone copycat was believed to be made using AI. Under the features, the developer said the game will redefine tactical combat with strategy-driven FPS experience and realistic weapon handling and ballistics.

The copycat will also feature fully customizable gear, a dynamic injury system, an immersive open world, and an intriguing storyline. Here is what Rick Lagnese of MADFINGER thought of the copycat;

“While #GrayZoneWarfare brings players tactical depth and strategic thrills, “Gray Zone Attack” might be a little too busy attacking the idea of originality. We prefer crafting something one-of-a-kind.”

Gray Zone Warfare hotfix rolled back 2 hours after launch

On December 2, 2024, MADFINGER announced that Gray Zone Warfare Hotfix 0.2.0.3 has gone live. The hotfix was expected to fix erratic AI movement where AI NPCs were dashing between locations as well as fix AI moving between two vertical locations as if teleporting.

However, less than 2 hours later, the developer announced that it was rolling back the update to the previous 0.2.0.2 saying it was “due to server crashing”. However, the developer said, “AI rebalancing stays”.
