Rockstar announced on Friday, 2 June 2023, that GTA Online: San Andreas Mercenaries will be released on June 13. The update will pitch private freelance professionals in the criminal underground against the Merryweather Security who happen to be as corrupt as everyone else.
Pairing with a team of ex-military operators and elite pilots, you will “battle against the monolithic forces of San Andreas’ largest private military in GTA Online: San Andreas Mercenaries”. The massive update will span the skies, seas, and streets.

It is close to 10 years since the last GTA game was released. Therefore, fans of the franchise have turned to GTA online to fill the vacuum. Launched on 1 October 2013, barely two weeks after the release of GTA V, the number of players has continued to grow over the years—and the game sees regular updates too.
It is hard to tell the exact number of GTA Online players because Rockstar has not made that information available. The closest source of statistics on the game’s player count is Steam which sees an average of 90,000 players log in daily with peaks reaching over 160,000. Therefore, GTA Online sees around 2.5 million players monthly.
GTA Online: San Andreas Mercenaries story revolves around Charlie Reed
Charlie Reed, a pro aircraft mechanic ace pilot, decided to put together a squadron of skillful aviators and guns-for-hire known as the Los Santos Angels for a lucrative private work that cuts across conducting raids, stealing sensitive data from server farms, and dropping explosive payloads on high-profile targets across the state.
“With Charlie’s help, the Mammoth Avenger will become an enhanced aerial command center equipped with a new Operations Terminal and weapons system upgrades.”

The new lucrative job also comes with other job descriptions including “running valuable contraband on the ground as well as encountering spontaneous opportunities to liberate cash and commodities from lucrative roving targets”.
GTA Online: San Andreas Mercenaries will come with a range of upgrades for Hangar and Avenger owners. From June 13, GTA Online players can store and customize their Avengers from their Hangar. Also, players can store and access their Avengers without necessarily having to own a Facility property or Hangar.

Other significant updates to the GTA Online franchise include the introduction of Tactical SMG which is ideal for drive-by shooting, random events, and daily time trials. There will also be other minor tweaks to improve the playing experience of the game.
Rockstar has demonstrated that it listens to feedback
Some players rarely give feedback because they believe that developers rarely read them. However, Rockstar has revealed that popular improvements requested by players will be shipped with the GTA Online: San Andreas Mercenaries update including:
- Updates to the Creator that will bring additional props and weather options including snow
- When using Taxi Liveries, Albany Classique Broadway and Willard Eudora will become available for Taxi Work
- Garages will get custom description tags for quick and easy location of favorite rides
- Accessibility update will see an alternate sprint control added to the Settings Menu so that players can just hold a button to sprint.
- Players can now claim all destroyed vehicles at once when calling Mors Mutual Insurance
Arguably the most intuitive update will be the sprinting. At the moment, GTA Online players need to tap repeatedly at X and A button to sprint which can be a nightmare to the thumb. The “hold to sprint” that will come with the update is surely going to be a relief to players.
According to Rockstar, many of the improvements that have come to GTA Online since its launch was inspired by direct feedback from the fan community including the ability to launch sell missions in invite-only sessions and easy-to-access snacks from the Weapon Wheel.
