It is no longer a secret that PlayStation Showcase will happen on 24 May 2023 and the expectations are really high. One of the questions we have been asked is whether GTA VI release announcement will happen at the PlayStation Showcase. The simple answer is that we don’t know.
However, following the revelation from Take-Two’s Earnings Call conference that hinted that big titles will be released in Fiscal Year 2025, there is a huge chance that we may see GTA VI announcement at the PlayStation Showcase. Right now, it is hard to think of a bigger title from Take-Two than GTA. Since its release in 2013, GTA 5 has earned nearly $7.7 billion in sales.
If truly GTA VI is part of the games that Take-Two is banking on to push their revenue to $8 billion, then the logical thing for them to do is to launch the game earlier in 2024 so that the revenue can build over time. If that is the case, unveiling a release date at the PlayStation Showcase will be just the right timing.

There are so many upcoming games that are highly anticipated that will likely reveal new trailers. Also, surprise announcements of new game projects or games currently in development are also expected.
The challenges of making GTA VI
Strauss Zelnick, the CEO of Take-Two Interactive which is also the parent company of Rockstar Games has hinted on the challenges Rockstar is facing in the development of GTA VI. Although Rockstar keeps the information about their game development tight, we have been able to get hints here and there through leaks.
Two huge GTA VI leaks have revealed that the game may have two playable protagonists, it will be set in Vice City with an expanded map, and the game will feature complex mechanics for an enhanced playing experience. However, all that info should be digested cautiously until there is an official GTA VI announcement or trailer from Rockstar.
During an interview on The Aerthi and Sriram Show Zelnick highlighted some of the challenges facing the development of GTA VI. The challenge hinges on creating a balance between something players have never seen before and preserving the expectations of the GTA franchise. Most importantly, Rockstar is aiming for perfection and will not accept anything less.
“I think that’s a challenge that the folks at Rockstar face every time there’s a new iteration to Grand Theft Auto,” Zelnick said. “It needs to be something you’ve never seen before on one hand, and it needs to reflect the feeling that we have about Grand Theft Auto. Rockstar’s answer is just seek perfection; seek nothing short of perfection, and we’ll get there.”
Zelnick’s statement about “iteration to Grand Theft Auto” also gives some sort of credibility to some of the leaks we have seen over the last 8 months including the protagonists, maps, and mechanics.

While it is hard to say with certainty that GTA VI will feature at PlayStation Showcase, there are other announcements that we are more than certain will happen. Below are 5 games that we would likely see at the PlayStation Showcase.
#1. Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 release date
Previous leaks have hinted that Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 will likely be in the hands of gamers by September 2023. While the leak was first revealed by a voice actor from the game, PlayStation and Insomniac later confirmed its fall release. It will be a surprise if we don’t see any info like the release date of Spider-Man 2 at PlayStation Showcase considering the size and success of the franchise.
#2. Final Fantasy 16 launch trailer
Although it has been confirmed that Final Fantasy 16 will be coming exclusively to PS5 on June 22, we expect to see a launch trailer of the game at the PlayStation showcase. Since it is tipped to be one of the biggest games of 2023, the Sony event will likely lean heavily toward news and trailers from the upcoming release.
#3. Update on Marvel’s Wolverine
We first saw a teaser trailer for Marvel’s Wolverine at the 2021 PlayStation Showcase. At that time it was revealed that the game was in development for PS5. However, the air has been too quiet around the progress of the game. We will likely get more information about the game at the PlayStation Showcase 2023. Perhaps, there may be another trailer and a possible release date announcement.
#4. Mortal Kombat 1 release reveal
After a lot of speculation, it appears the upcoming game will be called Mortal Kombat 1 instead of Mortal Kombat 12. According to leaks, the game is scheduled for release later this year. There is a huge chance that it will appear on the PlayStation Showcase to build the hype and probably draw attention away from the Upcoming Street Fighter 6—its closest competitor.

#5. Metal Gear Solid 3 Remake re-release
This year has seen a lot of remakes already but Metal Gear Solid 3 remake is not one of them. Although rumors about the Metal Gear Solid 3 remake have quieted, the game will likely get either a remake or a re-release. Whatever the case may be, the best place for such an announcement would be at the PlayStation Showcase.
Conclusion
It is just a matter of hours now before we experience the excitement that the PlayStation Showcase has in store for viewers. Although the live stream is yet to start, a lot of fans are already blowing up the comment section and one game that was frequently mentioned was GTA VI.
One thing that we can say with certainty is that if GTA VI will actually be released next year, then the chances are really high that we will hear a thing or two about the game at the PlayStation Showcase.
