On a personal note, I always prefer my games to be in the third-person view because I believe first-person should be left to VR gamers. That’s why I was thrilled about the announcement that Halo Infinite will be getting a third-person view next month. But many don’t share that excitement.
The news was announced through the game’s official X handle on Friday, October 4, 2024. The developers posted a less than 2-minute video showing off what to expect with the caption, “Experience a new way to play! 3rd Person Mode is coming to Halo Infinite this November”.

One comment that summed up how people feel about the update came from @TwoQuickOnes, the host of the FTW, who called it a “fortnite-ification of Halo”. Many people were disappointed that the game was getting a new POV instead of actual content.
“Once a pioneer of gaming now chases the trends of games made after it,” wrote YouTuber @EndymionYT. “Sad to see but what can you do”.
However, not everyone is cynical about the upcoming update. Some of the over 1,700 comments left under the post share my enthusiasm. X user @Logmey92 said, “This is badass. Have always wondered what it’d be like in 3rd person. Excited to check it out”.
“Pretty cool,” wrote @ReFlectionsYY. “Halo Infinite has such potential.”

Although this may not be the kind of update that long-time fans of the franchise hope to see, curiosity about what playing in the new POV feels like will likely draw players back to the game. But, how long it will keep them afterward is a story for another day.

Since its launch in December 2021, Halo Infinite has struggled with maintaining its player count. At a point, the decline in player count was blamed on the slow updates from the developers. Now, fans are worried that the updates are not meaningful.
The Halo World Championship is underway in Seattle—one of the reasons the game has endured on the front banner of game news blogs. The new update will likely provide yet another topic of discussion in the coming weeks and months.
