Hideaki Itsuno, the veteran game maker behind some of the biggest Capcom titles including Dragon’s Dogma and Devil May Cry has announced his departure from the company after spending over three decades.
“At the end of August 2024, I will be leaving Capcom after 30 years and 5 months,” Itsuno wrote in a post he shared on X. “Thank you for your long-term support of the games and characters I have been responsible for. I hope you will continue to support Capcom’s games and characters.”
The exact reason for his departure was not stated. However, he mentioned that he will be “developing a new game in a new environment”. What Itsuno did not also mention was whether the new environment would be his personal studio or another company.

“I hope to create fun, beautiful games that are as memorable as, or even more memorable than, the ones I have created so far,” Itsuno said.
Under the post announcing his departure, there was an outpouring of love from those who have enjoyed titles he contributed to over the years.
A user with the handle @ComAtose24seven wrote, “Please crowdfund instead of bowing to ESG investors. We will support you!”
Another comment from @TheTonicmole said, “I’m a massive fan of all your games, and currently obsessed with Dragons Dogma 2. Can’t wait to see what you come up with next.”
@Leering_Locust wrote, “This is devastating. I was hoping for Devil May Cry 6 with you at the helm. However, your work at Capcom is responsible for creating work that guided me through some of the toughest years of my life and I’m very grateful for you.”
In the latest Nintendo Direct Partner Showcase aired on August 27, Capcom Fighting Collection 2 was announced. Itsuno said, “Most of the games included were created by my team, so please check them out!”
