A few hours after a post from a former IllFonic studio employee surfaced online announcing he is searching for new roles, IllFonic released a statement across its social media platform confirming the layoff.
“Today we had to accept the harsh reality that the state of the industry has impacted us here at IllFonic,” said Charles Brungaradt, the studio’s CEO and Co-Founder.

“It is with the heaviest of hearts that cuts to our teams had to be made today as we re-aligned to a refined strategy.
“There is a lot of talent in this group, and if you or your team is hiring, please reach out so people can be connected to open roles.”
In addition to being behind the development of Predator: Hunting Grounds, IllFonic was also part of the development of iconic games including Killer Klowns from Outer Space: The Game, Friday the 13th: The Game, and Armored Warfare.
The studio was founded in 2007 and had offices in Golden, Colorado and Tacoma, Washington. The number of those impacted by the layoff was not disclosed.
Ex-IllFonic employees speak about the layoff
Sign of trouble was observed after the senior technical artist John Patterson posted that he was seeking a new role. Patterson used the opportunity to advertise his portfolio and specifically said he was open to new roles in New York.
Community and social media manager Mikes Robles also posted about the layoff on LinkedIn saying, “myself and a lot of very talented people were laid off from IllFonic”.
“I’m seeking a new role in video game level design and would appreciate your support,” said level designer Evan Zynda.
We have seen cases where employees blame studio management for layoffs. That doesn’t seem like the case here as everyone who posted about the layoff focused on selling their portfolio.
