Tony Todd, the veteran actor who brought Venom to life in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 has passed away. Todd was best known for his villainous role in the iconic horror movie Candyman.
“Insomniac Games is heartbroken by the passing of our friend Tony Todd,” wrote the Spider-Man studio in a tribute shared on X. “He brought so much joy to our studio during the production of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 and to many fans around the world with his inimitable voice and presence. We are Venom…forever.”

According to reports, Tony Todd died in his home in Los Angeles on Wednesday night. It was also reported that Todd will posthumously feature in the upcoming Indiana Jones and the Great Circle which is set for release on December 9.
Although best known for his roles in horror franchises, Todd has a long history of voicing video game characters. He featured in several video games including as Doctor Rogers in Back 4 Blood.
He played Vortigaunts in Half-Life 2: Episode Two and returned to the role in the 2020 VR game Half-Life: Alyx. He also played Admiral Tommy Briggs in the 2012 Call of Duty: Black Ops II.
In a 2019 interview with The Guardian, Todd reminisced about his most iconic scene in Candyman, where he was covered by a swarm of bees. According to him, he was stung 23 times and was paid $1,000 for each sting.
“Everything that’s worth making has to involve some sort of pain,” he said.
“I’ve done 200 movies, this is the one that stays in people’s minds. It affects people of all races. I’ve used it as an introductory tool in gang-intervention work: what frightens you? What horrible things have you experienced?”
