When I first saw that two players were constantly on screen in Little Nightmares 3, I wondered how it would be played solo—or whether the option would be available at all. In a Gamescom 2024 trailer, the game’s producer Coralie Feniello clarified that solo play will be possible with the help of AI. Those who made it to Gamescom 2024 will have access to a playable demo.
Little Nightmares 3 introduces “Low” and “Alone” as the two main characters. Unlike in the previous installments where only one character is playable at a time, both characters must work together in Little Nightmares 3 to get through the “Spiral”.
In solo mode, one of the characters will be controlled by AI while the player controls the other character. But we don’t know at this time whether players can choose to play as Low or Alone or the player can only play as either while the other is AI-controlled.

“They will have to work together to survive in this dangerous world full of delusions and escape the Nowhere,” Feniello said. “While Little Nightmares 3 is still playable in solo with an AI, you’ll also be able to play with a friend in online co-op and face your childhood fears together.”
The Gamescom 2024 playable demo for Little Nightmares 3 includes never-seen-before footage of what nighttime looks like in Necropolis.

Low wears a raven mask and a blue cape while Alone has a green jumpsuit and red pigtails. Each of the characters will have a unique tool that they can use to fight smaller enemies. For example, Alone has a wrench that will be used for solving some puzzles (like activating mechanisms).
It can also be used as a weapon in tough situations. Low will have a bow and arrow that will be used for shooting at enemies. Feniello emphasized that teamwork is essential to progression. At some point during the game, the players will get an umbrella-like tool that they can use to glide between platforms or ascend higher areas by riding on the wind.

“Necropolis is a peculiar place, raised from the desert sands and powered by gusting winds, It has been described as a city of eternal energy and certain death,” Feniello explained. “It is a weird place that used to be inhabited by the Dwellers.”
However, the city is more of a ghost town but there is no clue on what happened to the dwellers. The Gamescom 2024 trailer showed what appears to be one of the bosses in the game called Monster Baby.
Little Nightmares 3 will launch across the current and last-gen consoles, PC, and Nintendo Switch sometime in 2025. From what I have seen, it is shaping up to be another masterpiece from Tarsier Studios.
The third game is being developed in collaboration with Supermassive Games and published by Bandai Namco Entertainment. By the way, Tarsier has another game called Reanimal cooking at the corner.
