This year’s Minecraft Live aired on Sunday, October 15, 2023. The close to an hour-and-a-half broadcast was not short of surprises—which is actually why thousands of people tune in every year to the show. If you missed the show, here is the rundown of everything that was announced.
Agnes Larsson, the game director, and other Minecraft developers revealed some of the features that would come to the game in the coming months as well as next year’s big update. The upcoming big update has not been named yet but is expected to arrive around mid-2024.
Level designer, Matthew “Moesh” Dryden and Larsson discussed one of the new structures that is still under development called The Trial Chamber. It consists of vast structures of corridors and rooms filled with traps, mobs, trial spawners (a device that spews mob), loot, and more. The level is procedurally generated. What that means is that things may change each time you enter the game.

During Minecraft Live, Larsson and game artist Sarah Boeving showcased the new decorative tuff, copper bulbs, and copper blocks that can be toggled using Redstone pulses. Another interesting reveal at the event was the new mob called The Breeze. This new mob leaps around the target before attacking using the power of the wind.
A new update is coming to Minecraft Legends
Minecraft Legends throws players into an epic battle to save pet llamas and Overworld. Craig Leigh, principal design director also joined Minecraft Live to discuss the next phase of the game. The first major update to the game was back in August.
That update brought features like improved pathfinding, petting animals, world waypoints, PvP, custom campaigns, and enhanced Banner View. Leigh said the second major update coming to the game will be the biggest one yet.
The upcoming update will allow heroes to enter a battle on the fearless frog, “a brave mount that can swim faster and jump higher than any other steed”. Also, heroes will gain a new battle ally known as The Mysterious Witches who will use their portions against Piglin. Lost Legends will come either in November or December.
Minecraft Live reveals the return of Star Wars
Another interesting detail we learned from Minecraft Live was that Star Wars will be coming to Minecraft on November 7. That is also the day when the Star Wars: Path of the Jedi DLC should appear on Minecraft Marketplace.
The DLC takes place during the Clone Wars and “you will train with Grand Master Yoda, Mace Windu, and the other Jedi as a young Padawan”. Your challenge is to become a Jedi Knight. The entire details were not disclosed at Minecraft Live. However, players will likely explore uncharted planets and fight galactic monsters.

Fans of the franchise can now create unique The Block & Brick challenges with their friends with the LEGO Minecraft Pumpkin Farm. Players in New York City will get the chance to explore Cain’s full four-foot LEGO structure IRL from October 16 to 31 at the LEGO Store Fifth Avenue.
The Armadillo wins Mob Vote
The winner of the Mob Vote was announced at Minecraft Live and the winner was the armadillo. The creature received the most community votes and will be the next mob to join Minecraft. “The armadillo lives in the savannah biome and curls into a blocky ball when startled”.
The Armadillo will drop a scute which players can use to craft wolf armor, a new type of armor. The new armor will offer extra protection to your pet wolf. Although the mob vote is now closed, it was revealed at Minecraft Live that the event server will be open for 24 hours which gives players a whole day to play mob-tastic mini-games, meet the hosts of Minecraft Live, and complete their scavenger hunt.
