At some point, the 8-year-old installment became the fourth best-selling game on Steam. The modders had planned a revamp of the multiplayer portion of the original Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2.

H2M-Mod said the mod would feature over 50 maps, including a reimagined progression system and new attachments and camos that were absent in the original game. The mod was expected to combine the maps in Modern Warfare Remaster and the Modern Warfare 2 original maps.

Also planned for the mod was Modern Warfare 2’s original suite of killstreaks. The mod would have launched on August 16, but that will no longer happen. H2M-Mod announced that they were forced to pull the plug on the project because of a Cease & Desist order from Activision Publishing. H2M-Mod said they were complying with the directive.

“Today, our team members received a Cease & Desist order on behalf of Activision Publishing in relation to the H2M-Mod project,” the developers announced on X. “We are complying with this order and shutting down all operations immediately and permanently.”

The decision has angered a lot of people who had purchased Modern Warfare 2 Remaster because of the mod and they are now asking those who made similar purchases to refund the game. Some have already started filing for refunds.

“If you bought mwr on Steam for this and you haven’t played the game, please refund it,” wrote @oceanmangod.

It is important to mention that games can be refunded on Steam if the player has not spent over 2 hours on the game. However, there is still a huge chance that you can ask for a refund if you have played the game beyond that limit. However, you must have a strong reason for asking for a refund to stand a chance of having the request honored.
