A slew of GTA 6 leaks have been swirling around the Internet since the 2022 major leak from Lapsus$. The latest leak from the upcoming title from Rockstar Games showcased how fluid the character-switching mechanism would be. We saw a similar near-instant switch in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 by Insomniac Games.
X (formerly Twitter) user @gta6news_leaks shared the production video on September 16 with the caption, “One of my favorite leaks. You can see the new character switching, the detail of Jason and Lucia’s faces, and the graphics outside. The finished game will be insane!”

The 49-second video showed Lucia and Jason in a room and the player switched between both characters. One question that a fan asked was whether the character switching was fast because the characters were in the same room and wondered if the switch would be the same if the two protagonists were in different locations.
Another game that has featured a similar character-switching mechanism is the upcoming Spider-Man 2. Unlike the previous games that featured either Peter Parker or Miles Morales, the upcoming title will feature both of them. During the PlayStation showcase earlier this year, we discovered that players would need to switch between Peter and Miles at some point—and it was really fast.
Before now, when character switching was present in most games, there would be a short load screen before the other character was revealed. Thanks to the power of the next-gen consoles, that lag has now been eliminated.
GTA 6 is not the first instant character switch in the franchise
In GTA 5, Rockstar implemented the character-switching mechanism differently. When characters are together the camera will circle to the new character, However, when they are apart, the camera will zoom out the map and drop on the new character. Players can instantly switch between Trevor Philips, Franklin Clinton, and Michael De Santa when they are together.
However, it appears Rockstar is taking the mechanism a step further. In the leaked footage, it appears that what it takes to switch from one character to another is a “whoosh” sound and a flash of light—regardless of proximity.

In the leaked GTA 6 clip, Jason and Lucia were in the same room and the player tested the switching mechanism before taking Jason out of the room and repeating the same process. From our observation, there was no real difference in the switching time when the players were together and when they were apart.
It is important to mention that everything showcased in the alpha footage can change before the game ships to players. However, it will be interesting to see how Rockstar will handle character-switching in the upcoming game.
GTA 6 will have an animation for picking up weapons
In GTA Online, there is no special animation for picking up weapons. The weapon will just disappear and enter the player’s inventory—although there is a sort of animation for dropping weapons. Another leaked GTA 6 footage shows that the game will have an animation for both picking and dropping weapons.
In the 28-second video, we see Jason bend down to pick up a weapon. Another thing we noticed was how the weapon moved around when dropped. Although these are really subtle features, they will go a long way in enhancing how players experience the game.
There are other insane GTA 6 rumors making rounds that are simply unrealistic. One of them claimed that the game will have a size of 750 GB and that the story will run for at least 400 hours. At the moment, the game with the largest file is Ark: Survival Evolved.

The game gulps around 400 GB of space due to its expansion packs and maps. One thing that our readers should know is that most of the GTA 6 news or rumors are baseless. Most are simply clickbait that hope to ride on the popularity of the franchise. It’s best to ignore them and wait for an official announcement from Rockstar.
