New Mortal Kombat 1 Trailer Reveals Klassic And Kameo Ninjas. 3 Things We Learned

When Mortal Kombat 1 trailer and gameplay were revealed at the Summer Game Fest, Ed Boon promised that more characters will be revealed as we get closer to the September 19 launch date. NetherRealm has stayed true to their word with a new trailer that reveals Klassic and Kameo ninjas.

In late June, players were given access to play the demo version of the game which had four main characters (Sub-Zero, Kenshi, Kitana, and Lui Kang) and three kameo characters (Jax, Sonya, and Kano). Players who tried out the demo could ascend a short Klassic tower with four levels.

The new Mortal Kombat 1 trailer released on Thursday, July 6, gave tidbits of the Lin Kuei ninjas’ gameplay. For context, Lin Kuei is a clan of ninja assassins that includes Sub-Zero, Cyrax, Frost, Sektor, and Smoke. In the 2011 Mortal Kombat, Sektor told Smoke, “We are the Lin Kuei, more stealthful than the night, more deadly than the dawn!”

Who is playable and who is a Kameo in Mortal Kombat 1

As we explained earlier, the main characters are those that players will use for their combats. These main characters will be supported by Kameo characters that can be called out by pressing a dedicated button. Rain and Smoke have been confirmed in the growing list of main characters.

While Sektor and Cyrax have also joined the roster, they will only be available as Kameo fighters. Another interesting entry is Frost that first made an entry into the series in Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance. Frost will also be available as a Kameo.

One interesting thing that NetherRealm did in Mortal Kombat 1 was making it possible for players to finish off their opponent using the fatality of either the main character or the Kameo character. The new additions are a few of what more is to come. In total, fans should expect about 24 main characters and 16 Kameo characters in Mortal Kombat 1.

What novel details did the new Mortal Kombat 1 trailer reveal?

Although the new Mortal Kombat 1 trailer showed off lots of gameplay footage including special moves and fatalities, it also had glimpses of cinematic moments that deepen what we know about NetherRealm’s rewritten timeline.

#1. Scorpion and Sub-Zero had different ideologies

In the beginning, we see Scorpion and Sub-Zero scaling a tower and we were told that “the Lin Kuei is a century-old clan dedicated to the Earth realm’s defense”. They immediately come under attack when they reached the summit but Scorpion sets everyone on fire.

Although it was established from the first trailer that Scorpion and Sub-Zero were partners of some sort, the new Mortal Kombat 1 trailer gives us a glimpse of their ideological differences that may eventually drive a wedge between their friendship.

At one point we see Sub-Zero telling Scorpion “We stood for defending Earth realm when we could help lead it”.

#2. Smoke is an ally to Sub-Zero and Scorpion

The new Mortal Kombat 1 trailer also establishes Smoke as an ally to Sub-Zero and Scorpion. In one cinematic moment, Smoke said, “Whatever it takes, I am with you”. Scorpion in response touched Smoke on one shoulder and said, “We may not share blood, but we are brothers”.

#3. Sub-Zero and Scorpion work for Liu Kang

The trio of Scorpion, Sub-Zero, and Smoke was also seen infiltrating a temple. They were greeted by Rain who accused them of being sent by Liu Kang to learn their secret. In a snicker, Rain told the Lin Kuei warriors, “Rain will fall upon you like daggers from the sky”.

In response to the threat, Sub-Zero said, “A Lin Kuei’s flame is not easily smothered”.

The new Mortal Kombat 1 trailer ended with Smoke performing a decapitating fatality. Fans who pre-order the game now will get Shang Tsung as well as Beta Access.
