The first thing they shared on May 1, 2024, was Senua standing in a rocky, desolate location and peering into the horizon colored by the setting sun.

“The sequel to the award-winning Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice, Senua returns in a brutal journey of survival through the myth and torment of Viking Iceland,” read the game’s official blurb on Steam. “Intent on saving those who have fallen victim to the horrors of tyranny, Senua faces a battle of overcoming the darkness within and without.”

Senua’s Saga is an Xbox exclusive that will launch on Series X|S and PC. The game will be sold digitally alone and cost $50. According to the game’s listing page on Steam, Senua’s Saga: Hellblade II will occupy 70GB of storage space after installation.

“I think there’s a lot of pressure on people’s time these days and I think our fans, from what we hear from them, they enjoy a shorter game where our intention is that every step of that journey is meaningful… There’s an audience of people that want games that are focused,” said Dom Matthews, studio head at Ninja Theory, in a recent interview with IGN.

When Ninja Theory shared the image of Senua peering into the horizon, many people were filled with awe at how life-like the image was. Some asked if it was a TV series or a game.

Others were more concerned about how the game would look on Xbox Series S which has historically presented challenges to game devs. Recently, Microsoft confirmed that Tameem Antoniades who co-founded Ninja Theory and served as its chief creative director has left the studio. However, no reason was given for his quiet departure.
