One of the biggest rumors to come out of CES 2025 was the specs and dimesons of Nintendo Switch 2. Two days ago, it was revealed on Nate the Hate podcast that Nintendo Switch 2 will be officially revealed on January 16. It turned out everything said on the podcast was accurate.
Nintendo today pulled the lid off the Switch 2 with a video that lasted for 2 minutes and 21 seconds. For the first time since I can remember, the video had no description, as if the Japanese publisher wanted viewers to focus on the video and make of it what they wished.

The official reveal brings months of speculations to an end. As suggested by the rumors and third-party accessories spotted at CES 2025, the Switch 2 is bigger than the original console while maintaining the layout.
Another big upgrade to the new console is that the Joy-Cons are magnetically connected to the console which should give a firmer grip and prevent the unfortunate situation where they become wobbly over time—a bitter experience that current Switch owners are grappling with.
The Joy-Cons also got an upgrade. They have become slightly bigger too with improved details under the sticks that will hopefully prevent the stick drift experienced with the current Joy-Cons.
“Plays Nintendo Switch 2 exclusive games as well as Nintendo Switch games,” the developer cautiously said at the end of the reveal. They added a disclaimer that, “Certain Nintendo Switch games may not be supported on or fully compatible with Nintendo Switch 2.”
The new hardware will also come with the ability to play both physical and digital games with the position of the cartridge remaining unchanged. According to Nate the Hate, the software showcase will likely happen in February or early March with the hardware likely launching in May or June.
At the end of the hardware reveal, the publisher revealed an upcoming Nintendo Direct that will focus on Nintendo Switch 2. The date for the event is February 4, 2025.
Other notable features of the Nintendo Switch 2
The new hardware will have a longer stand that tilts to almost 180 degrees. This new stand offers players new angles for using the hardware. The reimagined hardware will also have a charging dock for both the console and the controllers. Hopefully, Nintendo will reveal more features of the console dock at the Nintendo Direct.

The Switch 2 will maintain the sleek and minimalistic design of its predecessor. The bottom of the console has two speaker grills on the left and right side and at the center, there is a USB-C port for charging.
The power and volume buttons and a headphone jack are on the top side. We are glad that they decided to keep that feature. It comes with a port that we believe will be used to connect the console to external monitors or televisions.
The trailer includes a peek of a new Mario Kart running on the console. However, we have to wait until Nintendo Direct to find out more. If you missed the reveal trailer, you can find it embedded below.
