Many high-profile releases have come to Nintendo Switch, partly because of the huge contribution of Miami-based Shiver Entertainment who created the port. On Monday, Nintendo announced that it has entered into an agreement with the current owner of Shiver Entertainment, Embracer Group AB to acquire 100% of the company’s outstanding shares.
By fully acquiring the outstanding shares, Shiver will become a wholly owned subsidiary of Nintendo. Established in 2012, Shiver Entertainment has worked on porting AAA releases to Nintendo Switch. The company’s most recent ports include Hogwarts Legacy and Mortal Kombat 1.

“By welcoming Shiver’s experienced and accomplished development team, Nintendo aims to secure high-level resources for porting and developing software titles,” Nintendo said in a statement.
“Going forward, even after it becomes a part of the Nintendo group, Shiver’s focus will remain the same, continuing commissions that port and develop software for multiple platforms including Nintendo Switch.”
In 2022, Nintendo acquired Dynamo Pictures (renamed to Nintendo Pictures) and SRD. Going back in time, Nintendo has made several studio acquisitions to strengthen its development pipeline. This includes the acquisition of Monolith Soft in 2007 and Next Level Games in 2021.
The successful acquisition of Shiver Entertainment will expand Nintendo’s lineup of North American studios. As all eyes turn to the Switch successor, Nintendo will need all the power it can get to create optimized content for its next-gen console.
