As we count down to the release of Mortal Kombat 1 on September 19, NetherRealm Studios and Warner Bros. Games announced on Wednesday, September 6 that Nitara will be joining the roster. What got some gamers excited was the revelation that she will be voiced by Megan Fox.
Nitara was first introduced to the franchise in 2002’s Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance on PlayStation 2, Xbox, and Gamecube. She also made a cameo appearance in Mortal Kombat 11 and was featured in the 2021 Mortal Kombat film. Like all other characters revealed so far, Nitara also got an excellent trailer.
“I am Megan Fox and I am voicing Nitara,” Fox said in the new trailer. “She comes from this weird realm. She is a type of vampire creature… evil but also good… trying to save her people. I really like her. She is a vampire which obviously resonates for whatever reason. It’s cool to be in the game.”

It appears Megan Fox will do more than just voice the character. Nitara will have Fox’s likeness in the game. She admits this in the trailer when she said, “I’m not really just voicing it, it would be like, she’s kind of me”.
Nitara is a “manipulative vampire” who wants her home to be free from Outworld, the fictional realm in the Mortal Kombat Universe. Mortal Kombat 1 will be released across all the major consoles namely PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PC, and Nintendo Switch.
“The talented team at NetherRealm Studios continues to push the series forward in bold ways that have consistently expanded the global audience, and we believe Mortal Kombat 1 will continue to attract new players as well as thrill our core fans,” said Warner Bros. Games in a press release back in May when the game was first announced.
Nitara is not Megan Fox’s first video game appearance
Fox is not a stranger to the video game industry. She played the role of Mikaela Banes in the 2007 Transformers: The Game and the 2009 Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen. Earlier this year she was hired to read eulogies of fallen heroes in Diablo IV. However, what we found weird is how she is lately attracted to blood and gore.
Although all the characters in the Mortal Kombat franchise are “stained with bloody fatalities”, Nitara will take it to a new height. Every time she touches the opponent with her sharp claws and fangs, she forces spurts of blood out of their veins.
In one scene, we see her slam into the midsection of her opponent, ripping it open. Afterward, she pulls out his intestine and flies him to the skies before delivering a powerful downward kick that sends him crashing into dead trees and splintering his bones.
Another feature that makes Nitara unique is her bat-like winds that give her extra advantages in aerial dwells. Megan Fox will bring the character to life with her impressive voice acting. In the new trailer, Fox revealed that playing the role of Nitara was personal to her.
“I’ve had a lot of fun doing it and it has caused me to be more free with myself,” Fox said. “Mortal Kombat is one of those staples. It has been around since gaming. I think it’s like an opportunity that anybody would want because we did all grow up playing the game. It is one of the greatest video games of all time.”
