NetherRealm Studios continues to drop snippets of post-launch characters for the recently released Mortal Kombat 1. The most recent reveal at the New York Comic-Con was Omni-Man voiced by JK Simmons. Omni-Man is a character from Invincible, a comic series that recently got an Amazon Prime adaptation.
Omni-Man is part of the 6-player Kombat Pack DLC which will launch sometime in November. Other Kombatants that will come with the DLC include Takashi Takeda, Homelander, Ermac, Peacemaker, and Quan Chi. Interestingly, players who purchased the Premium Edition of the game will get the Kombat Pack DLC for free.
Although the characters in the Kombat Pack DLC were revealed long ago, this is the first time we are seeing Omni-Man in action. Since Mortal Kombat X, NetherRealm has thrown crossover characters into their fighting games.

Arguably the height of crossover characters in a fighting game was seen in Injustice: Gods Among Us, another fighting game developed by NetherRealm in collaboration with High Voltage Software, and Armature Studio.
The 2013 release included a plethora of DC characters including Batman and Superman. Also, other popular action characters like Ninja Turtles and Hellboy also made it to Injustice. While Mortal Kombat X featured Leatherface and Alien Predator, it is easy to argue that the crossover characters truly became part of the franchise in Mortal Kombat 11.
Mortal Kombat 11 was laden with cross characters across multiple IPs including Spawn, Joker, Rambo, Robocop, and Terminator. In addition to the reboot of the entire franchise with Mortal Kombat 1, the introduction of crossover and Kameo characters has helped to keep the franchise fresh—and NetherRealm deserves accolades for their creativity.
What playing as Omni-Man feels like in Mortal Kombat 1
The one-minute trailer published on Saturday, October 14, 2023, gave fans of the Mortal Kombat franchise a sneak peek into what playing as Omni-Man would feel like. Scorpion and Liu Kang felt the full wrath of the alien superhero in the bloodiest ways that should look familiar to anyone that is familiar with the Invincible series.
In one scene we see Omni-Man tossing Liu Kang repeatedly like a piece of twig. In another scene, he pins the fire god to a boulder and delivers crushing blows on his face that tore out his skin before landing a two-fist devastating blow that crushed Kang’s skull.

In a fight with Scorpion, the alien superhero grabs the ninja, takes him to a subway, and grinds him beside a speeding train. The final fatality showcased in the gameplay trailer saw Omni-Man press Liu Kang on both sides of his head until his skull exploded like an inflated balloon.
The trailer also saw the debut of Tremor, the earth-elemental ninja that was first seen in the franchise in Mortal Kombat: Special Forces. The ninja’s last appearance was in Mortal Kombat X. Tremor will appear in Mortal Kombat 1 as a Kameo. Other fighters expected to join the Kombat Pack DLC as Kameo include Mavado, Khameleon, Ferra, and Janet Cage.
Mortal Kombat 1 was launched on September 19. The co-creator of the series and Mortal Kombat 1 creative director Ed Boon recently teased that Ghostface would be coming to the franchise—although he did not reveal when.
Since its release, Mortal Kombat 1 has enjoyed mostly positive reviews. On Metacritic, the review aggregator website, the game had an average rating of 85, 83, and 82 on Xbox Series X, PS5, and PC respectively. Omni-Man is one of the crossover characters that fans of the franchise have always wanted to see—and seeing him in a bloody action was oddly satisfying.
