Payday 3 Walkthrough: How To Correctly Guess Keypad Codes To Loot Vaults

Payday 3 is out now across all next-gen consoles and PC. Heisters are already sinking their teeth in the game to take a bite of what Starbreeze Studios has prepared for the long-awaited sequel. Arguably the biggest update to the game is the stealth gameplay. That should excite players who hate creating messy scenes.

“Payday 3 is the much-anticipated sequel to one of the most popular co-op shooters ever,” read the game’s blob on Steam. “Since its release, Payday players have been reveling in the thrill of a perfectly planned and executed heist. That’s what makes Payday a high-octane, co-op FPS (first person shooter) experience without equal.”

Days before the launch of Payday 3, Starbreeze announced that the game will not come with Denuvo, a Digital Rights Management (DRM) that’s designed to stop the proliferation of pirated copies. This was considered strange since Denuvo is usually removed months after launch—when the risk of piracy is lower.

“Hello heisters, we want to inform you that Denuvo is no longer in Payday 3,” Starbreeze wrote in a post on Steam on Friday 15, September 2023. The Steam post raked in over 524 thumbs up. The message was interpreted as the developer’s way of entering the launch week, backed by an excited community. The outrage on DRM has been because it makes modding more difficult.

Payday 3 also comes with more complex objects compared to the last installment. One of the new features that has left fans scratching their heads is the keypad codes. We will walk you through how to get beyond this new obstacle.

When you play Payday 3, you will notice that some doors have keypads next to them. These keypads are designed to make it harder for players to simply lockpick them like the regular doors. To gain access to such doors, you will need the correct number combination of 4 digits.

Keypads are usually found next to special VIP rooms, basement entries, and vault doors. At first, this seems like a simple obstacle that requires you to simply find the right code around the level. However, at higher heist difficulty, things will get really interesting.

In several missions, players will be given multiple codes that are the possible combination of the keypad. Most players will simply try all the codes until they find the right one. Bear in mind that every time you input the wrong code, the keypad will lock for close to a minute. That’s a lot of time for you to be caught.

So, how do you figure out the right code?

Interestingly, Starbreeze left breadcrumbs that should give you a hint to the right code—although many players will easily miss it since it was not mentioned in the tutorial. Once you get close to a keypad to interact with it, your character will shine a UV light on it. If you look closely, you will see fingerprints on the correct buttons.

Once you know the correct numbers, you can refer back to your list of codes to find the combination that matches the ones covered by the fingerprints. Once you find your match, simply input it in the keypad and the door should open to the next challenge.

If there are less than four fingerprints on the keypad, it simply means that one of the numbers was repeated in the code. For example, if the fingerprints are on 4, 2, and 7, it means that one of the numbers was repeated in the code. The correct code should include one extra of either 4, 2, or 7.

Cracking the four fingerprints clue was easy but some players got stuck when they found only three fingerprints. Next time you encounter less than four fingerprints in the clue, bet you know what to do. If you have played Payday 3, let us know your first impression. Was it better than its predecessor?
