Warner Bros. Games has acquired Player First Games, the studio behind the development of MultiVersus. According to a report by Variety, the acquisition did not impact the studio’s management. Co-founders Chris White (head of technology) and Tony Huynh (studio head) will remain in charge of the studio.
However, the co-founders will now report to Carlos Barbosa, the studio head and VP of Warner Bros. Games, San Diego studio. The financial details of the acquisition are not immediately clear. Commenting on the acquisition, Warner Bros. Games president David Haddad said he was pleased to welcome Player First Games under the WB umbrella.

The game features an expanding roster of characters drawn from the most popular TV and game franchises. The game launched on May 28 and is available on PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC.
“Our team is excited to join the Warner Bros. Game family, and we feel that this will be great for MultiVersus overall,” said Hyunh. “We are working to make the MultiVersus game experience the best it can be and having our development team integrated with the publisher is optimum for the players.”

Player First Games has also put out a tweet to clear a confusion that was fast brewing about earnable chromas for Ranked Mode. The developer clarified that it will be exclusive to Samurai Jack.
Hey MVPs!
The earnable chromas for Ranked Mode are exclusively for Samurai Jack. We hope this may clear up any confusion regarding which characters have earnable chromas for the ranked season.
Best of luck and we can't wait to see how far everyone gets!

The developer also mentioned that the game will enter Maintenance Mode today at 9:00 AM PDT for the start of Season 2. There was no mention of how long the maintenance will take. However, the developer promised to “get full patch notes to you as soon as possible”.
Player First Games describes itself as a “game company founded to create games to serve under-served and passionate communities of gamers”. The Los Angeles-based studio was founded in 2019 and has less than 50 staff.
How will the acquisition impact Player First Games? Will it remain a Multiversus studio forever, eventually make new titles, or become a support studio for WB Games? Only time will tell.
