PlayStation 5 Summer Deals Have Killed The Competition

PlayStation 5 Summer Deals Have Killed The Competition

Who doesn’t love seeing numbers slashed off retail prices? However, PlayStation 5 Summer deals this year go beyond just price cuts. In fact, this is likely the best opportunity for anyone that has been dreaming of owning a PlayStation 5 but is hesitant for one reason or another.

Last year, the price of the PlayStation 5 was permanently hiked across various countries, including the United Kingdom. The price hike was blamed on the shortage of chips resulting from pandemic lockdowns.

Consequently, the price of the Digital Edition of the PS5 shot up to £389.99 from the previous £359.99 while the Disc Edition climbed to £479.00 from £449.99. According to Trusted Reviews, PlayStation 5 Summer deal for the disc edition, which comes with LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga, is currently being sold by Currys for £399. The PlayStation 5 Summer deals are also happening in Ireland, India, and Germany.

This is arguably the best PS5 deal since the console went live in late 2020. Currys’ PlayStation 5 Summer deal drops the console price significantly below the manufacturer-recommended price. It is important to mention that Currys’ PlayStation 5 Summer deal console comes with a Blu-ray drive and 825GB of storage—just as you would get with the undiscounted versions.

This is a limited-time offer that will run until August 10, 2023, meaning interested buyers have about 2 weeks to grab the offer. While LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga may not have been a media sensation, it has been widely praised by those that experienced it.

PlayStation 5 exceeds 40 million global sales

PlayStation 5 40 million sales

Sony disclosed that it has hit a new milestone by selling over 40 million units of PlayStation 5 across the globe as of July 16, 2023. This is a huge feat because as of the fiscal quarter ending September 30, 2022, the company has only sold 25 million units.

In other words, the Japanese company closed 15 million PS5 console sales in just over 9 months. It took a while to get to that figure and the COVID-19 pandemic and supply chain issues may have played a part in that delay since they led to supply gaps. Many people that wanted to buy PlayStation 5 couldn’t find it.

Ryan also disclosed that PS5 now has over 2,500 games—which includes Street Fighter 6, Diablo IV, and Final Fantasy XVI launched in the last two months by its partners. The SIE CEO also shared a list of 40 games voted by the PlayStation community as the best on the platform.
