Sony has announced a PlayStation 5 technical presentation for tomorrow, September 10, 2024. The show will be hosted by Mark Cerny, lead architect of the PS5 console. The presentation is expected to last just 9 minutes, but some gamers are already predicting what’s coming.

Making the announcement, senior director of Sony Interactive Entertainment Content Communications Sid Shuman said, “The 9-minute Technical Presentation will focus on PS5 and innovations in gaming technology”.

Timeline of PlayStation 5 Pro leaks and announcements
There is a strong sentiment that the show will be all about the announcement of the PS5 Pro. There have been several leaks around the PS5 Pro and here is the timeline of everything we know so far.
August 2023: The Internet exploded with PS5 Pro rumors including spec sheet and concepts. It was also revealed at that time that the console was in development.
February 2024: Game industry analysts predicted that the next iteration of the PS5 console will launch later this year. It was also disclosed that the console will make use of Sony’s proprietary upscaler similar to DLSS.
March 2024: It was claimed that Sony’s DLSS equivalent will upscale 1080p to 4K and that the console will be backward compatible. Rumor was corroborated by documentation spotted by Digital Foundry.
April 2024: YouTuber Moore’s Law is Dead spews official Sony documentation which contains the specs of the upcoming console. The documentation was verified as coming from Sony Interactive Entertainment’s Developer Network. The video was eventually taken down by a copyright claim from Sony.
August 2024: Dealabs user Billbil-kun said the new console will be called PS5 Pro and will share similarities with PS5 Slim. The only difference is that the console will have three stripes in the middle instead of one. Billbil-kun also claimed the console will be announced in the first half of September.

September 2024: Sony announces a PlayStation 5 Technical Presentation that will last 9 minutes.
According to the documentation and the image leaks we have seen, the PS5 Pro will share a lot of similarities on the outside with the PS5 Slim. It is claimed that it will have a similar shape (except for the three stripes), share the same white color, and use the same DualSense controller. However, the major difference will occur on the inside. According to the documentation shared earlier this year, the PS5 Pro will have the following specs:
- 2-3x Ray-tracing (x4 in some cases)
- 5 Teraflops
- AI Accelerator, supporting 300 TOPS of 8-bit computation / 67 TFLOPS of 16-bit floating point
- Custom machine learning architecture
- PSSR (PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution Upscaling) upscaling/antialiasing solution
- Rendering 45% faster than PS5
- Support for resolutions up to 8K is planned for future SDK version
