Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown got a new update called Warrior’s Path. The update is free to all players who purchased the game. Since its launch on January 18, 2024, The Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown has enjoyed a generally favorable reception. On Metacritic, the game earned an average score of 88 on Nintendo Switch, 87 on Xbox Series X, 86 on PS5, and 84 on PC.
“Get ready for the first major free update coming to Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown,” said the narrator in the update trailer. “Rise to the challenge with the challenge with the new permadeath mode, and play the game with only one life.”
Players who yearn for a harder challenge will enjoy the permadeath mode because every hit is costly. In the permadeath mode, players don’t get a second chance. Once you are killed, you must start all over.

Also, there is an option in the Permadeath mode that gives players the chance to track their best attempts. In the Speedrun, players will try to finish the game as quickly as possible. The two new modes are designed to massage the ego of trophy and accolades chasers. It is also an attempt to get as many players as possible to dive back into the game.
However, to make sure that as many people as possible take up the challenge, Ubisoft is offering a new outfit to the “fastest warriors”. Also coming with the update is a new appearance for Sargon. In the new appearance, Sargon looks much older with a beard and fuller hair that now flows downward.

Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown likely underperformed financially
On January 31, 2024, an X user Kami claimed that Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown had sold only 300,000 copies which is poor judging from its great reception. Since then, a lot of people have tried to explain the reason for the poor performance. The content creator and producer of Monster Prom Jesse Cox pinned it down to four reasons:
- Ubisoft has a bad rep. Lots of people who would have bought this didn’t cause Ubi
- It’s not on Steam?
- It’s an indie game with AAA pricing
- Other games (like Palworld) took people’s attention
While many people agreed that it may have had something to do with the bad reputation that some gamers have with Ubisoft, they disagreed with him in other areas. An X user, 7BitBrian, corrected Cox, pointing out that the game was priced at $49.99 which is lower than the $70 price tag of AAA games.

“Well atm we don’t know for sure if it did or not. It’s just a rumor,” 7BitBrian wrote. “But if it did under-sell; it’s likely a number of things. Reputation is one for sure, as is the bad announcement trailer that does not match the vibe of the actual game. So, marketing as well.”
What I dont think would contribute is it being an "indie" game. Because it certainly doesn't feel indie. This is one of the best designed Metroidvanias period. This game will easily find a place in top ten lists for the genre. It may be a more niche genre, but top quality in it.
