PS5 Pro was designed for a niche market, further confirmed by its $700 price point. However, Sony was impressed by the strong sales start of the console. However, it appears the trend was short-lived.
Data shared by Mat Piscatella, the executive director and video game industry analyst at Circana, revealed that PS5 Pro sales have fallen behind the PS4 Pro sales performance during its first sales month.

However, a direct comparison of the sales of the PS5 Pro and PS4 Pro sales may not be logical considering the huge price differences between the two. PS4 Pro retailed for $399.99 when it launched but PS5 Pro cost $700.
The new data is a contrast to the trend when Piscatella shared similar data in November 2024. At that time, he said PS5 Pro enjoyed “a solid start” with unit sales “in the same ballpark as PS4 Pro’s launch”.
We have yet to receive the official PS5 Pro sales figures from Sony. However, the company’s latest earnings call showed that PS5 units shipped (75 million) is now just 1.5 million units behind the PS4 (76.5 million) during the same period in its lifecycle.

Citing Helldivers 2 and Astro Bot as examples, Sony highlighted during the web call its intentions to double down on live service and family-friendly games. The company also expressed high hopes for its third-party titles planned for release in its next fiscal year which starts from April 1, 2025, to March 30, 2026.
It is interesting that Sony is still thinking about the live service route considering the huge loss it incurred from the failure of Concord which eventually led to the shuttering of Firewalk Studios. Many gamers would prefer they stick to single-player experiences.
