Razer has unveiled the first-ever haptic gaming chair called Razer Freyja. It started as Project Esther before evolving to what the company calls “the world’s first HD haptic gaming cushion”. It is powered by the Razer Sensa HD haptics.
This is not the first product that has tried to create more immersive gaming by making the player feel the action beyond just the rumbles of the controller. Several companies have created haptic vests like the TactSuit Haptic Vest which players can wear.

However, Razer Freyja is offering several benefits over haptic vests. Firstly, it won’t feel like you are wearing an extra load, and it promises better haptics thanks to the Razer Sensua ecosystem. Also, the Freyja uses voice to haptics technology which also makes it suitable for experiencing movies differently.
“Razer Freyja pulls you into the action like never before, delivering sensations that go beyond the screen,” Razer said in the description of the video announcing the launch. “Imagine the power of every in-game explosion, heartbeat, and whisper felt as if you were truly there.”
Razer Freyja is powered by six haptic motor actuators that give a full-body sensation that travels through different areas of the body. It allows the player to feel the action, direction, distance, and location of events in the game in real-time.
Imagine driving in Forza and feeling every bump on the road as if you were really driving in a car. Priced at $299.99, Razer Freyja is more affordable than most popular haptic vests on the market.
Most importantly, Razer is working with developers to integrate their haptic API into the most popular game engines so that most games will work with Freyja on launch.

Several titles including Stalker 2: Heart of Chenobyl, Frostpunk 2, Mech Warriors 5: Clan, Snow Runner, Silent Hills 2, Final Fantasy XVI, and several others have already been adapted to work with Freyja. The list of supported games will grow over time.
Things you must know before purchasing Razer Freyja
Razer Freyja comes with three adjustable chair straps that allow players to highly customize their comfort. It has a power port with cable management loops to avoid accidental disconnection.
Just like every gaming chair out there, the Freyja has a weight rating. The maximum weight it can support is 136 KG or 299 lbs. If your weight is above the rating, you unfortunately cannot use it or might get damaged the first time you use it.

The second most important consideration is that the chair has six voice coil haptic motors and wires and “must not be washed under any circumstances”. Razer recommends wiping the cushion with a damp, soft cloth during accidental spills.
Razer Freyja is currently compatible with PC (Windows 10 64-bit (or higher) via Razer HyperSpeed Wireless and Android Mobile via Bluetooth and Nexus App.
