Rockstar Games has announced that its multiple award-winning Western adventure title, Red Dead Redemption, and its zombie-horror expansion, Undead Nightmare, will both come to PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch on August 17. Both games will come as a single package.
The PS4 and Nintendo Switch port for the games was done by Double Eleven Studios. Interestingly, the game will be backward compatible with PlayStation 5—although it is hard to imagine that anyone will enjoy playing it on PS5. Red Dead Redemption remains one of the most critically acclaimed games with more than 170 Game of the Year Awards.
Red Dead Redemption tells the story of John Marston, a former outlaw, and his dangerous adventure across the American West and Mexico as he follows the trail of the last remaining members of the notorious Van der Linde Gang. Marston is on a mission to save his family.

Undead Nightmare is a hallowed expansion of Red Dead Redemption. This time, Marston is fighting for survival against the bloodthirsty zombie horde. While gunning the undead creatures down, he also searches for a cure.
The upcoming rerelease will also support more languages including Brazilian Portuguese, Korean, Latin American Spanish, Polish, and Russian, as well as Simplified and Traditional Chinese. Both games will come in a single pack with a price tag of $49.99.
Digital versions of the game will be released first on August 17 and fans can purchase it on Nintendo Switch eShop or PlayStation Store. The physical copies of Red Dead Redemption and Undead Nightmare will be launched on 13 October 2023.
What the PS4 port of Red Dead Redemption and Undead Nightmare will not have
Zack Zwiezen of Kotaku took a deep dive to analyze the PS4 port announced for Red Dead Redemption and Undead Nightmare. The first thing that Zweizen discovered was that the rerelease will offer little or no visual upgrades compared to the original game.
If that happens to be the case, it will be a big deviation from other old titles released this year which are either full remakes like Sherlock Holmes: The Awakening or at least had significant visual upgrades like Dead Space.

Also, Zwiezen pointed out that the PS4 port will not have multiplayer support. For these reasons, the author believed that the $50 price tag was not worth it. Interestingly, players can get a better and cheaper version on Xbox Series X|S for $30. Meanwhile, PC gamers are still waiting for their turn.
While it has been rumored for long that a remake of the original Red Dead Redemption (which is 13 years old now) was imminent, the announcement by Rockstar Games laid the rumors to rest—albeit not eliciting the desired reaction.
It was also revealed that the game will not support 60 frames per second for the rerelease. This means that gamers will be stuck with over a decade-old 30fps and game assets. Another question that gamers have been unable to answer is whether the PS4 port will include “Legends and Killers” and “Liars and Cheats” DLC packs.
Last year, Rockstar launched a remaster of the Grand Theft Auto trilogy. However, it did not go as planned. Red Dead Redemption PS4 port will likely suffer the same fate and end up as one of those projects that shouldn’t have happened in the first place.
If Rockstar wanted to do something phenomenal, they should have followed the route of a remake or remaster like The Last of Us or Resident Evil 4. Both games performed well and players praised the advanced graphics.
