The second installment of Remedy Entertainment’s Alan Wake franchise was a remarkable success. After the release of Alan Wake 2 on October 27, 2023, the game quickly became an instant hit attracting millions of players. Notwithstanding it was released within a crowded window, it still found its shine.
In a recent press release addressing the performance of the game, Remedy Entertainment revealed that Alan Wake 2 has sold 1.3 million copies as of the beginning of February. At least one million out of the total sales happened before the end of December 2023. This feat also makes Alan Wake 2 Remedy Entertainment’s fastest-selling game to date.
“By comparison, Alan Wake 2 sold over 50% more copies and over three times more digital copies in its first two months than Control did in its first four months,” Remedy explained, adding that Control has now sold over 4 million copies since its release in 2019.

Remedy Entertainment plans to grow and expand the Alan Wake franchise
Are we going to see a third installment in the Alan Wake franchise? Hard to say considering the fact that it took the studio a decade to make the sequel. However, the success of Alan Wake 2 has inspired Remedy Entertainment to dream bigger for the franchise. The company’s CEO Tero Virtala said they are happy with sales so far.

We will continue to develop the game to serve existing fans and attract new players and expect the game to continue selling well.”
Remedy Entertainment is currently working on two paid expansions for Alan Wake 2. The first titled Night Springs is scheduled for release in late spring 2024. The second which is titled The Lakehouse has no release window yet.
“We now have two established franchises: Control and Alan Wake, which are linked through the Remedy Connected Universe,” Virtala said. “Growing and expanding these franchises will be a key part of our future.”
In a separate statement, Virtala acknowledged that the success of Alan Wake 2 has had a positive effect on its other projects. The studio was able to relocate more staff to its other projects which should help fast-track development.
