Irish game maker Romero Games just turned 10 and the company is celebrating the milestone with the announcement of more employee benefits. The studio was founded by John and Brenda Romero in 2015 and has a culture that should be emulated globally.
“10 years! Thanks to every single member of the team for making this possible,” wrote John on X. “In these 10 years, we’ve established a studio in Galway, expanded and moved into new offices 3x with a 4th expansion expected in 2025. We’re just past 75 people now across all disciplines, and we’ve retained our inclusive, welcoming culture.”
At a time when the game industry is filled with news on layoffs and studio closures, a studio expansion announcement is really a sight for sore eyes. Also, Romero Games is setting the standard for inclusivity. Rather than paying lip service, they are hiring beyond boundaries.
“The RG team is made of people from all over the world, with the core of our team in Ireland and other countries in the EU and UK,” John added. “Each year, the leadership team adds more benefits, and 2024 was no exception (we added menopause leave, clothing allowance, and matched donations).”
“In an industry that is exceptionally turbulent, celebrating this anniversary is significant and we don’t take it for granted. With that said, thank you to our amazing team and to all of you who look forward to playing our games.”
Romero Games has a unique culture where every member of the team is a friend and co-worker. On its LinkedIn page, the company said, “We hang out together, game together, and support one another at work and in our independent projects”.
Romero Games currently has open roles. If you have been impacted by the recent wave of layoffs in the game industry, consider checking their career page and see if any of the open vacancies match your portfolio.
Romero Games is focused on first-person shooters. They are currently working on an original IP in that genre. The game is being developed on Unreal Engine 5 in partnership with a major publisher.
