Silent Hills 2 Remake Production Is Progressing Smoothly But…

Fans have been eager to know more about the Silent Hills 2 remake. On Sunday, November 26, 2023, Bloober Team which is currently working on the remake released a statement. Although the message mentioned that the Silent Hills 2 remake “production is progressing smoothly,” it was far from the information that players yearned for.

“As Bloober Team, we are proud to be part of Konami’s plans for the Silent Hill franchise,” the message began. “Alongside our partner, we are diligently working to ensure the Silent Hills 2 remake attains the highest quality. On behalf of our development team, we would like to clarify that the production is progressing smoothly and in accordance with our schedule.”

The studio appreciated all the fans of the Silent Hills franchise for their dedication while also acknowledging that fans eagerly want to know more about the upcoming game. However, the studio said it was not for them to make that call.

“We kindly ask for a bit more patience,” Bloober Team wrote. “Once Konami, as the game’s publisher, shares more information, we are confident that the wait will be worthwhile.”

In October last year, Konami announced that Silent Hills 2 remake was in development. Since that announcement, nothing more has come from the publisher and developer. Earlier this year, there were rumors that the game was “technically ready” but still far from finished. Bloober Team has also said they will leave the doors open for future games in the series.

On November 21, Bloober Team shared a post that all their major titles were available on Steam’s Autumn Sale. A fan (@SodaRMT) commented asking, “When could we expect to get some news on the remake, or is that up to Konami?”

The developer responded by saying, “Konami is the publisher of the game and communication is definitely part of their job”.

Fans have been reacting to Bloober Team’s Silent Hills 2 announcement

We have seen developers of games make announcements about their upcoming titles. For example, Bryan Intihar, the senior creative director at Insomniac Games, was all over the place talking about Spider-Man 2’s features right up to the release of the game. It’s hard to tell why the situation is different between Bloober Team and Konami.

The lack of communication has made some fans doubt the progress of the development. “I smell development hell,” wrote @chokeobo. We should have seen footage of gameplay by now if this was marketed correctly”.

From the statement put out by Bloober, what we understood is that someone may not have been doing their job effectively, and the developer is pointing accusing fingers at the publisher. But whose job is it to give updates about a game’s development, the developer or the publisher?

From what we learned, publishers usually fund game production and will work with the studios to make sure the game is delivered on time and on budget. In such a situation, the publisher will either own all or some of the rights to the game. When that is the case, it makes sense for the publisher to be the one giving updates about the progress of the game.

One thing we do know is that Bloober Team has built a strong reputation in the spooky genre with titles like Layers of Fear, Medium, Blair Witch, and more. Fans advised the developer to take their time to deliver a worthy Silent Hills 2 remake. While most fans believe Bloober will deliver, they think the clog in the wheel will likely be Konami.

“I believe Bloober Team but I don’t believe Konami, they will ruin everything,” wrote @TomasHavel. “I think that game will have few good mechanics copied from other games, but Konami will come and ruin everything with monetization of the game or something like that.”

I have a hunch that we may get a new trailer for the Silent Hills 2 remake at The Game Awards on December 7. Another highly anticipated game trailer at The Game Awards is that of the next installment in the GTA franchise.
